This month we are able to bring you details of our latest funding event to be held in conjunction with the Tayside Funding Group. Following the success of our 5-session funding seminars last year, we are holding an event, Be Better @ Funding, aimed at helping you to write better funding applications, prepare for assessment and evaluate and run your project. The same event is to be run in three locations, Dundee, Perth and Angus and you can attend as many sessions as you like in each location. Sessions will be run twice each day so plenty opportunities to attend! However places will be limited so book now. (Please note this is not about meeting funders although there will be one session on how to source funds).

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES |
CLORE DUFFIELD PEFORMING ARTS AWARDS
The scheme - organisations such as registered charities youth groups, limited companies and schools that wish to undertake activities that enable young people aged 0-18 to experience the performing arts are eligible to apply for funding.
Amount - this is a £1 million programme that is operating between 2005 and 2010. Eligible organisations can apply for funding of between £1,000 and £10,000 for educational projects with under 18s that cover every aspect of the performing arts including opera, dance, music, musical theatre, the spoken word and theatre.

JUNE BAKER TRUST
The scheme - applications are invited for this year's round of the June Baker Trust Awards for Conservators in Scotland. The June Baker Trust was set up in 1990 to help individuals working in the conservation of historic and artistic artefacts in Scotland, or training with the intention to do so. Awards will be available towards travel, attendance at conferences and on short courses, purchase of equipment, or other suitable projects.
Amount - awards are usually in the region of £100-£300.

COMMUNITY RADIO FUND
The scheme - OFCOM has invited Community Radio stations to apply for funding, to support their core running costs through the Community Radio Fund. These core costs can include, management; administration, financial management & reporting, fundraising to support the station (grants and commercial funding), community outreach and volunteer organisation and support.
Amount - there is no upper limit of grant that can be applied for; however, the minimum grant is £5,000.
Eligibility - grants can only be made to community radio licensees who are broadcasting under a community radio licence (and not an RSL, for example).

The scheme - to support community and voluntary sector activity through giving grants to local groups and organisations across its trading area.
Amount - grants from £500 to £30,000 are available for part or total funding for one-year projects.

The scheme - The Scottish Community Action Research Fund (SCARF) has launched another application round to help communities across Scotland to improve their skills and confidence to carry out their own research, plan projects, collect information and understand it, use the information, and learn from experience. Priority will be given to proposals from community and voluntary groups that can show that there is a genuine need for the research skills that they wish to develop, and that their research project:
Stage 1 will allow groups to employ SCARF-recommended ‘research mentors’ to work with them to help develop a research plan and identify training and other support needs. Once the mentor has helped you put together a research plan you can then ask for money to carry that plan out.
Stage 2 funds will be available to help implement the research plans derived from the first stage process.
Previous support has included work on: drug misuse; protecting and promoting a safe environment; developing the economy; community premises and facilities; health; getting people to take part; discrimination; services for different groups; tourism; heritage; and arts and recreation.
Amount - £150,000 will be available this financial year. Grants are normally between £3000 and £10,000.

Deadlines - the deadlines for 2007/08 are 29 May, 29 August and 26 November 2007, and 25 February 2008.
The scheme - the award encourages people to "think global and act local". Grants can be used for the hire of tools or equipment and to purchase plants, paint, signs, materials etc. All types of environmental projects such as turning derelict land into an amenity park or wildlife area, tree planting, creating a wildlife pond, renovating neglected river and canal footpaths, providing water butts and recycling facilities in village halls will be considered by the Conservation Foundation which manages and judges the awards.
Amount - grants of up to £1,000 for projects designed to improve the local environment.
Who can apply? any local amenity group, community council, school, youth club, heritage group, environmental and conservation group and individuals who can show that their project will benefit their local environment and have a bank account may apply.

Deadline - applications are accepted throughout the year. Judging takes place on the 20th of each month except August and December. Funding must be spent within three months of the recipient receiving the award.
The scheme - If you are a community group or a school and are looking to plant trees in your area during the National Tree Week, then the Tree Council has a grant pot for you. This year the National Tree Week is 21 November to 2 December. The Tree Council will only fund projects and organisations that have received professional advice and therefore know what they are talking about when it comes to trees. So, you are advised to consult with professionals such as local tree wardens, local authority arboricultural officers and Groundwork Trusts. (For Angus, contact ConacherF@angus.gov.uk )
Amount - the fund is open to projects where tree-planting costs are between £100 and £700. Any applications where the £700 limit is exceeded will automatically be discounted, even if funds are available from another source to cover the excess. Satisfactory evidence that you are able to meet 25% of the funds needed to carry out your complete tree-planting project must be provided.

INNOVATE PROGRAMME
The scheme - funding to promote innovation in tackling financial exclusion. The National Forum for Financial Inclusion (TRANSACT) and the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) have announced that the criteria and guidelines for the INNOVATE programme 2007 - 08 are now available. The aim of the scheme is to give organisations the opportunity to test out new approaches and activities which will extend knowledge of what works in helping people move towards financial inclusion; and in doing so build up a stock of transferable new ideas for use by other organisations across the UK. This year the focus of the programme will be on tackling financial exclusion amongst social housing tenants, and those experiencing homelessness.
Amount - under the Innovate programme awards of between £10,000 and £30,000 are available to support projects that develop new ideas in promoting financial inclusion. The total budget available is £100,000 and in 2007 - 08 Transact expects to build a portfolio of 3-6 projects.

ICT CONNECT BURSARY SCHEME
The scheme – to enable voluntary and community organisations to explore their ICT needs by arranging and paying for a visit to another organisation that is using ICT well or in an innovative way. So, if you would like to learn more about ICT strategy, working with an IT volunteer, how to integrate telephone calls over the internet into your office, networking your computers, making use of open source software and more, then apply for ICT Connect.

COMIC RELIEF RED NOSE PROGRAMME
The scheme – support for community based projects that work with:
- Young people;
- Older people;
- People with mental health problems;
- Refugee and asylum seekers;
- Tackling domestic violence and deprivation.
Amount - grants awarded can be for up to three years in duration and in previous years most of the grants made under this programme have been in the region of £15,000 to £40,000. Organisations can also apply for funding at any time through the small grants programme. The small grants programme makes awards of up to £5,000 for projects that support older people, tackle mental health problems and tackle deprivation.

Faithworks Awards 2007
The Faithworks Awards seek to promote awareness of the community work being done by projects throughout the UK motivated by Christian faith, and inspire further Christian activism throughout the UK. There will be four Awards within categories of their own, each worth £5,000. The emphasis is on supporting projects that have been successful with limited resources, that are operated professionally, and that promote social inclusion and social justice.
Projects will be assessed to begin with against these criteria:

The Improving the Lives of Children and Young People Award 2007
This award seeks to recognise the work of Christian motivated projects that are positively and professionally impacting the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. Projects should be:
Improving outcomes for disadvantaged children and young people in their local community;
Highly professional in their approach to caring for and safeguarding children and young people;
Effectively involving children and young people in the running and development of the project.
The Community Inclusion Award 2007
This award seeks to recognise projects that promote inclusion and challenge injustice within a local urban context. Projects should:
The Community Excellence Award 2007
This award seeks to celebrate a commitment to best practice in projects inspired by the Christian faith. It recognises projects that are committed to professionalism and valuing people.
The Faithworks Members Award 2007 for Community Commitment
This award seeks to celebrate the outstanding commitment of Christian motivated projects that are serving marginalised people within their local communities despite limited resources. Projects should:

RURAL DEVELOPMENT SMALL AWARD FUND (RDSAF)
The scheme - if you are a community group in rural Scotland and have an idea for an innovative community project or activity that encourages greater community involvement and is exclusive to a rural area then it's not too late to apply for funding. Although the programme is scheduled to close at some point during the summer of 2007, money is still available, and applications are welcome.
Funding is available for innovative community projects or activities relating to project planning, maximising community involvement, capacity building, consultation exercises or gathering of local ideas. Applicants are encouraged to be as creative as possible when considering their community requirements.
Amount - grants are available from £500 to £5,000 for group activities or small capital purchases. No match funding is required. 50% of the funding is paid on approval with the balance paid on completion.
Who can apply? - constituted community groups or not-for-profit organisations located in rural areas of Scotland (a settlement of less than 3,000 people) who can demonstrate that there is a real need for their project or activity and that the project/activity will make a real contribution to the community. The fund does not support running costs.

ANGUS RURAL ENTERPRISE GRANT SCHEME NEW
The scheme – Grants will be available for groups and networks of rural businesses and community groups for projects associated with the creation and safeguarding of jobs and attracting visitors.
Amount – up to £5,000
Eligibility – all areas of rural Angus are eligible. Individuals and individual businesses may not apply.

SCOTTISH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
The scheme - the Scottish Community Foundation is now able to accept applications to the 2007 – 2008 Sport Relief grants programme. Grants will be available to constituted not-for-profit community groups with an income under £250,000 per year for projects that:

The scheme: The Youth Work Facilities Improvement Fund is open to all youth work organisations which provide opportunities for young people (aged 12-25 years old) across Scotland.
Amount: While there is no actual ceiling on applications it is unlikely grants of more than £100k will be given unless the project is exceptionally innovative. Anyone considering applying for £50k plus should contact YouthLink Scotland for a pre submission discussion. There is no lower limit as we are aware that for some smaller groups a little money can make a huge difference.

The scheme: YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FUND is open to all properly constituted youth work organisations, local authorities, other relevant agencies and local groups. A great premium will be set on local joint networking working between voluntary and statutory sectors, with work with an equalities theme and work in deprived communities also taking precedence. They have £500,000 available for summer holiday youth work activities and we will be seeking innovative programme proposals for the 12-25 age group.

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
The UK European Parliament Outreach Team, created to improve contact between the Parliament and the general public, has recently launched its new website which contains information, a magazine to showcase activities and various resources. These include materials for use in schools about the Parliament; organising visits by MEPs; and how to celebrate Europe Day. More information can be found on the website of the European Parliament.

Angus Independent Advocacy has received £159,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Investing in Communities programme, the third Angus based charity to do so.
Grants totalling £3,250 were made by the Arbroath Improvement Trust to the Abbey Theatre Club, Warddykes Primary School, Inverbrothock Primary School, Arbroath Friends of Guiding, Arbroath and District Scout Association and the Oyster Trust
Auchterhouse Primary School received £350 for a tricycle and special needs equipment from the McIntosh Changing Lives campaign
