Balhousie Care Group donate Oor Wullie annuals

Staff from Balhousie Care Group visited Inch View Primary School on Friday 20^th January to help kick-start their Burns Night celebrations with a donation of annuals from one of Scotland\'s most iconic comic characters.

The donated The Broons and Oor Wullie annuals will be used by teachers to help introduce pupils to some of the old Scot\'s language used by Oor Wullie and his famous friends. Joining them for the visit was Balhousie Care Group\'s very own Oor Wullie sculpture. ‘Oor Wullie Noo\' has been fondly renamed Auld Wullie by Balhousie and spent the summer in Broughty Ferry as part of the successful Oor Wullie\'s Bucket Trail. During the visit, Auld Wullie was reunited with his artist, Alison Price, whose son attends the Primary School.

Louise Barnett, Director of Operations at Balhousie Care Group, commented:

\"We were delighted to be able to take Auld Wullie down to Inch View Primary School and donate some special Oor Wullie annuals to help the children learn some of our traditional Scot\'s language. Many of our residents grew up reading Oor Wullie and have thoroughly enjoyed having our sculpture visit the homes, so it\'s lovely to be able to give the younger generation the chance to meet him and learn a little more about him too!\"

The sculpture, which depicts what Oor Wullie would look like as an 80-year-old, has begun his own mini-trail of Balhousie\'s 25 care homes after it was bought by Balhousie Care Group\'s Chairman, Tony Banks, at a fundraising auction in Dundee last September. He has a special connection to Balhousie after two residents from its St Ronan\'s Care Home modelled for artist Alison, who captured their hands and facial features for the sculpture.
