DESTINATION SPACE’ NEEDS YOU!

As the European Space Agency’s first British Astronaut prepares to blast off to spend six months living and working aboard the International Space Station, a massive science adventure will touch down in Dundee this weekend. 

To celebrate Tim Peake’s December mission, the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres is coordinating an exciting season of astronauts and adventure for families and schools at 20 science centres across the UK. The programme, which includes Dundee Science Centre, is backed by the UK Space Agency.

Launching on Saturday 10 October 2015 to coincide with the final day of World Space Week, the ‘Destination Space’ show will allow visitors to explore what life is like for the entire space crew.  With amazing demonstrations and supersonic science experiments including building rockets, launching astronauts and learning about life on the ISS, the show will be held regularly throughout the day, seven days a week, ongoing from Saturday 10 October.  All activities are included in normal admission.

In addition to the family show, a free ‘Saturday Science Live’ event at Dundee’s Wellgate Shopping Centre later this month will see the Dundee Science Centre team blast off and take visitors on a journey to explore the wonders of space. Taking place from 1-4pm on Saturday 31 October, there will be a host of hands-on demos and fun, drop-in activities for all ages to enjoy.

Meanwhile, Dundee’s Douglas Community Centre will embark on ‘Space: The Final Frontier’ on Wednesday 11 November 2015, from 6-8pm.  Offering a fascinating insight into the night sky, visitors can find out if they have what it takes to become an astronaut in a fun-packed, free space-themed event.

Last but certainly not least, scheduled for Tuesday 15 December 2015, there will be the amazing opportunity to watch Tim Peake’s launch live!  Sending Tim Peake’s mission off in style, this extra-special evening with entertain visitors with lots of activities – from learning about life on the International Space Station and exploring the night sky in the Cosmos planetarium, to chatting with Space Experts.  There will even be the chance for visitors to blast off some of their own rockets!
