Gaynor Sullivan, Dundee City Council; Tara Wainwright, V&A Dundee; Louise Tobin, Scottish Enterprise and Kim Adamson, Dundee Heritage Trust are taking part in Napier University\'s Destination Leadership Programme. We\'d like your help to research our group project, \'Design Tourism: the Opportunities and Challenges it presents for Dundee\'. Please complete the following survey by Monday 27th February..

Dundee has embraced a culture-led approach to regeneration and is undergoing a rapid and dramatic transformation. Cultural tourism is one of the main drivers of the city\'s new Tourism Strategy, influencing visitors’ perceptions of Dundee, the quality of their visitor experience here.

Dundee is the UK\'s only UNESCO City of Design, part of a network of 22 towns and cities across the globe and in 2018 will become home to V&A Dundee, the only V&A branded museum in the world outside London. Events, festivals and the presence of a strong creative sector in the city open up a real opportunity to attract new visitors.

Building on our range of design assets we propose the concept of Design Tourism as a 21st century subset of Cultural Tourism. Design Tourism, an emerging concept, focuses on visitors with a niche/unique interest in design and creativity. Current leaders in this area include Scandinavia, Croatia and a number of other UNESCO Cities of Design, particularly Helsinki.

Design embodies everything that we do, and for tourism there are specific opportunities around improving the customer journey (before, during and after the visit) to the creation of products and services, to architecture and the built environment.

For example, the city\'s recent Cultural Tourism Fund awarded funding to collaborative projects that focused on the development of culture and design led products aimed at the visitor economy.

V&A Dundee

V&A at Dundee will be an international centre of design for Scotland. It will celebrate Scotland's historic importance in design and host major exhibitions of outstanding design, helping people understand their own and others' cultural heritage.

Scottish Enterprise

Identify and exploit opportunities for Scotland\'s economic growth by supporting Scottish companies to compete, helping to build globally competitive sectors, attracting new investment and creating a world-class business environment.

Dundee City Council

Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
