The recruitment process is part of Journeycall’s phased migration from its current bases in Brechin and Laurencekirk, where the award-winning company’s 200+ employees provide call centre and backroom services to the smart card and public transport industries, including Transport for London, North East Transport partnership, Stagecoach and Megabus.
Theresa Wishart, Journeycall’s Operations Director, explained that the company’s current employees will begin moving to the new premises at James Chalmers Road in Arbroath in early November, when they will be joined by the first of the new employees.
“This is an exciting time for Journeycall,” continued Theresa. “Since the company started in 2003, we have strived to evolve. Relocating to larger premises with almost 50% more employees will enable Journeycall to continue with our long term plans by further increasing our range of specialist services to existing clients while also targeting new business.”
During the recruitment process, Journeycall was assisted by Angus Council’s business team. Amongst the support provided, economic development officers hosted awareness raising days, sourced interview locations and provided induction training, as well as working closely with Journeycall to ensure that new employees who are no longer able to claim benefits are not financially disadvantaged whilst waiting for their first pay packet.
“The support provided by Angus Council’s business team has been invaluable,” said Theresa.
As well as 100 new jobs, it is estimated that Journeycall’s relocation to Arbroath will inject around £30 million into the local economy over the next ten years – news which was welcomed by Angus Council’s economic development spokesperson, Councillor Mairi Evans. “The creation of so many new jobs is very good for the local economy and for local people,” said Councillor Evans.
“It is rewarding to watch a company develop and it’s a source of great pride when that company is so committed to Angus.”
