Scottish Business in the Community (SBC) - Angus
IntroductionEstablished in 2003, SBC Angus is committed to an integrated approach of supporting, brokering and challenging local organisations to deliver a positive benefit to the local communities of Angus.
Prosperous communities create a positive environment within which businesses operate effectively. It therefore makes sense that businesses within Angus take an active part in ensuring the prosperity of their community.Partnership Working
Through the act of working together, partner organisations can benefit in a number of ways. These include co-ordination, integration, innovation, adding value and creating collaborative advantage.
Collaborative advantage is achieved when organisations working together, whilst remaining independent, achieve an outcome that singularly they could not provide.
Effective partnership working requires a common purpose, the ‘right mix’ of partners, strong leadership and good management.Concentrating on the themes of Education, Employability and Community, SBC Angus works co-operatively with its private, public, voluntary and community sector partners to develop and implement local strategies and programmes to enhance the social, economic and environmental well-being of communities within Angus. These are guided by national priorities and strategies across the three themes.
The Role of SBC Angus
Considering the importance of the three themes, SBC Angus is ideally placed to add value to the delivery of existing projects and to lead on new projects centred on the themes of Education, Employability and Community.
As an organisation with strong links to the business community, SBC Angus has access to a wealth of resources.

Why Should Business Get Involved?
In order to achieve the vision of a ‘smart, successful Scotland’, businesses must become engaged in positively developing the skills of our future employees, employers and entrepreneurs. In order to survive an ever-increasing competitive marketplace, business needs young people skilled in team-building, problem-solving, self-management and decision-making.
Working in partnership with the business community allows schools to add a new dimension to learning. Businesses can show young people how theory works in practice and help prepare them for the transition into working life. Helping young people in this way can bring other benefits including staff development, improved community relations and the chance to engage with the future workforce and customers.
Where appropriate to do so, Partnership agreements are available to put formal structures to current and future relationships with local businesses and schools.
Clear Benefits
The benefits to young people are very clear – development of core skills, positive attitudes and a better understanding of themselves and the world of work.
The benefits for business are equally clear – ensuring that the future workforce possess the appropriate skills and attitudes to meet the needs of the business; enhanced reputation as a good employer; improved business reputation and profile within the local community; access to fresh ideas through the original thinking of young people and teachers; staff development opportunities to learn new or improved skills and the ability to influence how enterprise is embedded within the curriculum.
