In Your Shoes - Sam Walker

Monday

My week started with a 10k run as part of my training for the Dundee half marathon later this month. It is going to be a lot harder than I had hoped but it has been a nice way to start the days, especially getting the view of Invergowrie bay from Glamis Road – best view in the world!

When I got to work, the morning was spent catching up with my colleagues clearing emails from the weekend and making a plan for the week ahead. After, I spent the day working on a set of accounts and corporation tax.

Tuesday

My car was in for an MOT today – as I drove to the centre with squeaky brakes and a reverse gear on the brink I thought, “please just pass.”

No two days are the same at EQ which is my favourite part of the job. Today I drafted an R&D tax claim for a client. It is a great way to gain a better understand a company’s technical processes, as well as the exciting projects that are underway in the area.

Wednesday

This morning was spent at the Abertay CyberQuarter for Techscaler’s monthly “Unfiltered” networking event for the tech community. It is always nice to catch up with the regular attendees and meet some new people in the community.

After this, I had a meeting with a new tech client to prepare their company registration as well as discussing some considerations from an accounting point of view for their start-up and, most importantly, their ideas!

Thursday

Another run this morning, it was a lot easier today knowing that the weekend is just around the corner!

Me and the team had recently implemented a selection of apps to improve the efficiency of one of my client’s internal finance functions at several stages - from data capture to payment processing. This morning was spent providing training to their staff.

My Thursday afternoon was spent firstly at Silva Spoons Café getting the best lunch of the week and then working from the hot desking space within MSIP. It is full of great people and is a nice place to spend a Thursday afternoon.

Friday

I was awake at 4am this morning… to catch the Ember bus to the airport for a weekend in Poznan.

As a Dundee supporter, it is not often you get to see your team play in the sun – Dingwall in December comes to mind - so when a friendly against Lech Poznan in Poland was on offer I couldn’t say no.

If only every week ended this way!! Have a nice weekend everyone ????
