In Your Shoes - Amy Scott

Hi, I’m Amy, SSEN Transmission’s Website and Social Media Officer.

I joined SSEN Transmission’s External Communications Team in February 2024 working closely with colleagues who work both within traditional and digital marketing. I am responsible for the management, collation, reporting, and content development for our social media channels and our website. I also work as a digital marketing consultant for brands across the UK, creating and delivery strategies and content to help thrive online.

We are very active across our channels at SSEN Transmission, especially our LinkedIn, reflecting our plans to upgrade the transmission network across the Scotland through our Pathway to 2030 programme, a £20bn investment that supports national energy security and net zero ambitions. So be sure to give us a follow to stay up-to-date with the latest Scottish energy news!

If I had to pick a favourite part of my job it would definitely be the strategic planning and reporting. As much as I love to create content, I think developing and delivering the journey of that content and how it is going to impact users is equally as exciting.

Monday

I love a trip through to the big city to work, I think it’s nostalgic from seeing traditional businesspeople in films and on tv from when I was a kid.

Today’s setup was in our Glasgow office, right in the centre of town. I spent today working on a digital campaign that I am currently overseeing, tidying up some reports, forecasting for the month coming in our digital activities and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) planning, and meeting with our new Head of Communications and Brand.

I am also preparing for tomorrow as I am meeting with the Chartered Institute of Marketing Scotland (CIMS) to discuss digital mentorship programmes for people who are wanting to pursue Digital Communications, and I have a marketing and technology networking event in Edinburgh! A proactive day of annual leave!

Tuesday

Today was a half day, so I tried to pack in as much content creation as I could this morning as well as finalising some templates for this ongoing digital campaign. I then travelled through to Edinburgh to meet with the CIMS as part of the mentorship programme run by group individuals looking to provide guidance to people in their early careers looking to get into marketing. I also then attended a Tech Event with a colleague of mine where we learnt a lot about upcoming programme adaptions using AI that will allow websites to take precise report measurements and make trend predictions based on customer journey. Working within analytics, making data-driven decisions is my game and it was great to connect with like-minded individuals. It’s safe to say that I got my steps in today, almost hitting 20K – I have a feeling I might feel this tomorrow.

Wednesday

An early start in the Perth office with the team after an even earlier gym session this morning, I was right, I could feel the steps from yesterday! It was all systems go on the design front for the digital campaign that I am working with the team on producing. The campaign is a big part of our growth within the digital space and aims to increase communication between our communities and stakeholders, whilst also aiming to dispel any myths surrounding electrical transmission infrastructure. Today I had my head in Illustrator files and building out new concept graphics. I always enjoy getting to test out brand colours and design layouts, you will always surprise yourself with a combination that you have not tried before!

No two days are the same when you work within digital marketing, and today was a perfect example of that. From reporting, to networking, to design work – I love how diverse each week is and how the creativity can reach new heights. The same can be said for my post-work training sesh, new PBs hit all round.

Thursday

Today was full of back-to-back meetings. There are some fantastic projects and opportunities coming up across the business, it’s a very exciting time to join and be part of a growing team. We’ve begun to look at our digital activities for 2025 and how we can continue to develop our online presence, it really does feel like time is flying by, but it’s always worth being prepared and forecasting where our next step is going to take us.

Speaking of steps, I managed to squeeze in a quick lunchtime walk which helped me collect my thoughts for some client meetings I had as part of my consultancy projects after work. I took a wander down to the waterfront and along to the V&A Dundee, it’s certainly one of my favourite places to wander down to, especially in the sunshine!

I was quickly back to work and started working on some new creative brand ads that we are planning to run, and I also secured myself an invite to a marketing event through in Edinburgh with my digital team. It’s always great to connect with like-minded individuals and hearing what’s thriving in the industry.

Friday

Who doesn’t love a treat on a Friday?  I started the morning off with a training session, it always wakes me up and gets me ready for the day, followed by a warm pain au chocolat from a batch I had baked the night before. I like to go into the weekend with some freshly baked goods and the following week planned out!

The digital team always meets on a Friday morning to look at what we have scheduled or planned across our channels, which then always ends up as a brainstorm session for more concepts. It so amazing to see an idea come together, and with such a talented team on board the creativity is always thriving.

I had a couple of new graphics and key messaging to secure before our next campaign phase, which thankfully we got, meaning I could go into a fresh week all systems go! I cannot wait for everyone to see what we have coming out in the next few months. To celebrate, I may have had another cheeky pastry – it’s always important to treat yourself.
