In Your Shoes - Sarah Livingston

Hi! I'm Sarah and i work for Hutcheon Mearns as a Resource Consultant specialising in Finance and Accountancy Recruitment across Dundee, Angus, Perthshire and Fife.

Most of my week is made up of contact with candidates, new and existing clients, business development, meetings and checking out the Finance job market in the area!

I hope you enjoy reading about what I've been up to this week, my full week back after 2 working weeks off. Trying to get used to the cold again after being in Turkey.

(Trying to find a selfie, whilst hunting through the 30,000 pictures of my son was a job in itself!)

Monday off work

A little bit of a different Monday for me (usually it's straight into the office with a jam packed schedule ahead), today my little boy was booked in to get his Flu Jag in Perth so i had the day off to spend with him.

Slow Morning - the usual mum tasks (i wouldn't blame you for tuning off my 'blog' now) - washing, changing beds and getting the Halloween decorations from the attic, does anyone else LOVE Halloween?

After this, off to pick my son up from nursery then into town for his flu jag, which he done well at! Funnest part of the trip was finding a key in the car park on the ground, so off to the Police Station to hand this in, which my son was VERY happy about.

Then off to meet my partner for lunch - McDonald's in the car, classy!

We did receive some sad news that my neighbours dog passed away, so me and my little boy went to Asda to get some pictures of her printed and framed and a plant and card. Went to visit him and keep him company for a while.

Before the usual - tea, bath, bed.

Another Day off Work

I promise i do work!

Tuesday is my 'normal' day off, i now work 4 days per week to spend the Tuesday with my son before he goes off to school summer next year *queue the tears*.

Usually we jam packed everything we possibly can on a Tuesday but wanted to take it easy after yesterday.

A chilled morning, which suited me - he even chipped in to help make us breakfast. He is a magician at cracking eggs and getting no shell!! (not even 4 yet, its pretty impressive!)

After breakfast we headed to Blairgowrie to visit my gran and grandad which was lovely. My mum made an appearance too, so was a great big catch up with everyone being in one place which was lovely! Alot of Christmas chat and trying to arrange a family Secret Santa.

Some of Grannies soup, before we headed back to Perth to do some food shopping - and of course ended up buying my son a Hot Wheels car which will likely go missing in the next few days.

Off home for an early night, back to work and nursery tomorrow to get back into the swing of things.

And hopefully alot more interesting read for you to come :)

Wednesday - a busy one!

Wednesday began with a lot of catch on emails, texts and calls whilst i was off Monday and yesterday.

A morning meeting with my manager Lynsey to start off the day, and bring me into focus for the day ahead.

My main focus being the roles i have active at the moment, checking new applications and reponding to those with the correct experience/locations - usually try to call or email and a time to call.

Next on the agenda was a very insightful meeting with my team over Teams to discuss another arm of our business - Corporate Finance. Very interesting and always great to learn about our growth and services we can offer to our clients.

Finished the afternoon - catching up calling my candidates to check their status on the 'job hunt'.

Ended the day with a new local job to fill, a client i had met with before so that was a positive end! Persistence pays off i guess!

Thursday

A day in the office today - always forget the beautiful views we get from our office windows. (sometimes a little distracting).

We have an office Seal that swims by our window from time to time, we named him Sedric.

First thing today was a team meeting with my manager - this is where we cover off where we are for the week, jobs we have running, stages of jobs, client communication, any new or exsisting candidates that continue to be on the market for a new role, and a plan for the rest of the week.

My manager Lynsey is off to Spain this weekend, and her last working day is today so we spent some of the day passing work over and doing an official handover.

We had a full office today with the specialists downstairs, and i got to meet our new specialist Sam.

Today i complete 4 CV's before 11am to send over to my client in Perth for the role i am running with them. Then arranged a meeting in the office tomorrow to meet the client again and see where my candidates will be working - this is great as you can tell them EVERYTHING. Bonus too the office is 5 minutes drive from my house.

Then it was onto looking at the Jobs Boards to see which companies are hiring, we use this tool for Business Development - discussion point in the team to which candidates are best suited to the role then we send the company direct personalised messages (not always!) to spec in the candidates and offer support. Not super pushy but a good way to offer help where needed.

Myself and Lynsey went for lunch to City Quay, pulled pork baked potato, my fav! Beautiful views on our walk back. Always great to have a non work related catch up.

Then the rest of the afternoon was catching up with candidates and preparing for my meeting tomorrow.

An all round productive day!

Fri-yay!

The last day of the week - and mine started off with someone hitting my car before 8am (can't write it). No damage thank goodness and the Bayne's order was still in tact!

7.30am - After nursery run and taking my partner to the garage and then to work (a long awaited car service!) off to the bakery to pick up my client some Strawberry Tarts, this has become a 'thing' with clients ensuring i bring them before i come now! :)

8.45am - Leaving to hit the road my short drive round to my Clients office in Perth. Great views of the river too. An hour meeting with a tour, a good chinwag, and of course setting up interviews with the candidates CV's i put forward yesterday! All round a great meeting and a great catch up after not seeing each other for about 6 months.

Back home and called my two candidates being interviewed on the way to let them know all about the workplace, parking, office layout, desk situation, structure - and vibes of course!

Back to WFH - entering all my meeting notes with client and candidates, and prepping candidates for interview with a follow up email of our phone call.

Interviews booked on system - and notes added.

Another candidate registration, finding out where the candidate lives, their role preferences, salary expectations, transport and experience. Discussing the market and next steps before updating their profile on our system. These can last anywhere for 20 minutes to sometimes 40/45 mins depending the conversation.

The rest of my friday was catching up on emails, calling candidates and updating candidates on job status and applications.

An all round busy day - which ended better than it started thats for sure.
