In Your Shoes - Gillian Cameron

I’m Gill, the Membership and Business Development Lead here at the Chamber, and no two weeks are ever quite the same! From coffee catch-ups with our brilliant members to hosting big events (with a lunchtime riverfront stroll squeezed in where I can), it’s always a mix of meetings, meaningful chats, and a bit of organised chaos.

Here’s a little look at what I got up to this week – from Monday’s member meetings to Friday’s full-time mum mode!

Monday: Member Catch-Ups & Summit Prep

Mondays are usually a bit go-go-go, but I love starting the week by catching up with our Chamber members. I had a few meetings lined up to hear what everyone’s been working on and as always, I came away feeling energised. There’s so much happening across Dundee, and I feel lucky to be part of the conversations.

We also had our final meeting ahead of the Dundee Economic Summit. Lots of updates, timings to remember and running around to do.

I made sure to sneak out for a quick walk along the river at lunchtime – bit of fresh air, bit of headspace, and some sun. Mondays done right!

Tuesday: Five Meetings, One Happy Gill

Tuesday was a whirlwind. I had five member meetings in one day. I won’t lie, my step count was wild but I love days like this. There’s nothing better than sitting down with our members, hearing what’s going on in their world of business, and figuring out how we can help support them.

I always say I get the best insights over a cuppa and a good blether and Tuesday was full of both. There’s such a range of stories and ideas across our network, and I never stop learning.

Lunchtime was a quick loop along the waterfront and another cuppa when I got back to the office. I definitely earned it.

Wednesday: Summit Day!

An early start, but what a day. Wednesday was all about the Dundee Economic Summit. Over 150 guests, a buzzing room, and a brilliant line-up. A really insightful economic update, great conversations, and lots of valuable takeaways from the day. The highlight for me was hearing from our keynote speaker, Martha Lane Fox. Her talk gave me goosebumps and I know I wasn’t the only one. Such a powerful message and a brilliant reminder of what’s possible. We were on our feet all day, so no lunchtime walk for me, though I probably walked the length of the city at the event!

Thursday: Quiet Wins from Home

After Wednesday’s excitement, Thursday was a quieter one. Working from home with Oscar snoring next to me (my Cockapoo not husband). I spent most of the day checking in with members we haven’t heard from in a while, making sure they know about all the benefits that come with being part of the Chamber.

It’s easy to forget the little things: publishing news, booking events, making connections, so it’s lovely to remind people what’s available and hear how things are going.

Lunchtime was a slow dog walk through the neighbourhood. Sunshine, tail wags, and a podcast.

Friday: Full-Time Mum Mode

Fridays are Chamber free for me and I am really grateful for the flexibility at work as juggling work and being a mum isn’t always easy, but having that support makes such a big difference. With a 9-year-old and twin 4-year-olds, I’m in full-on mum mode from morning till night!

We spent the morning at David Lloyds swimming (where I mostly played lifeguard and snack distributor), followed by some kitchen fun making chocolate cupcakes and of course, licking the bowl. Next up was school pick-up for big sis, and we wrapped the day with a scoot down to Monifieth Beach.

It’s chaos, joyful, messy chaos, and I love having this time with them before Monday rolls back around. Ready for the weekend.
