Our expert speakers

Wendy Maltman & Debbie Hutchison, The Malting House

Wendy Maltman FRSA is the Founder and Creative Director of The Malting House Design Studio. A prize-winning, honours graduate of leading design school, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Wendy has made it her ambition to champion the benefits of good design.

An early career with some of Scotland’s leading agencies inspired her to set up her own practice, The Malting House Design Studio, in 2003. The studio offers a professional graphic design, marketing and communications service to businesses, charities and organisations across a wide range of sectors in Scotland and around the world.

Wendy is a Fellow of the RSA, a Burgess of the City of Dundee and a recent Past President of the Association of Scottish Businesswomen. A committed Rotarian, Wendy is also a member of the Museums Association and Vice Chair of Dundee Museum of Transport.

On the 6 December 2019, Wendy was inaugurated into the Dyer Craft of the Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee, as only the second female member in its 500 year history.

Debbie Hutchison is the Marketing Director of The Malting House Design Studio. With a degree in International Business and Languages from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Debbie has over 25 years’ commercial experience in the UK and overseas, specialising in sales and marketing in both corporate and SME sectors. Involved in several award-winning projects throughout her career, she cites being part of a team which won two Queen’s Awards for International Trade as a notable career highlight.

Having held a long-term interest in the creative industries, she successfully completed an HND in Visual Communications at Perth College UHI in 2017, an experience which piqued her interest in education and motivated her to join the Perth College Board of Management.

As part of Business Gateway’s Expert Help team, Debbie and her colleagues support many start-up and growing businesses throughout Dundee, Angus and Perthshire.

Debbie was recently elected President of Perthshire Businesswomen’s Network

Kevin Anderson, The Story Edge

Kev Anderson is a writer and storyteller. When he’s not writing for businesses and charities he’s writing for himself. That means writing daft wee stories, memoir pieces and essays. He’s worked in marketing since 1995 and describes himself as a ‘jaded marketer’.

He’s not a marketing expert, guru or ninja. But, he is a writer that loves helping people communicate like the humans they are. When he’s not working or writing, he’ll be trying his hardest to make people laugh as that’s what gives him the greatest buzz in life.

In the session he’ll spend a minute explaining why he believes writing is the most important marketing skill. The rest of the time will be spent sharing advice to help you become more confident writers.

Kev dislikes talking about himself in the third person. (I really do.)

With 20 years experience in Business Development and Operations with Multi-Nationals both in and out of the Music Industry he now uses those skills to bring client projects the highest quality audio solutions.
