Keira Proctor, Managing Director, A. Proctor Group
Taking over the reins of a long established family business, with an annual turnover of 20 million and over 100 staff, at the tender age of 29 is quite a change to your life. Keira will guide attendees through some of the challenges she faced to be taken seriously by an already established Board of Directors and how asserting her own leadership style took time, patience and hard work. The significant impact on her personal life will also be considered . Now, 6 years later, her journey continues and she'll share how she continues to strive forward with a dynamic and modern approach to the industry and market place.
The Proctor Group is a family owned, specialist construction materials company based in Blairgowrie. Keira joined the Board in 2009 when her father, Allan Proctor began undergoing treatment for stage 4 cancer, and his presence in the business was missed. Her leadership journey began in 2012 when Allan was unable to continue to run the Proctor Group due to further illness, at which point he asked her to take on the role of Managing Director. At 29, she moved from her role as Sales Director to MD and took responsibility for the Group, which comprised of a mature Board of Directors, Group turnover of around 20 million, and 125 staff nationwide.
Gaining exposure to the challenges, dynamics, and in the early stages – the politics of running a business involved a vast learning curve. Keira immersed herself in understanding all areas of the company, and introduced a completely different type of leadership style. Her enthusiasm for change and modernisation has allowed staff to drive the company forward, giving responsibility, autonomy and support to members of her team. The business today has doubled in turnover, branched out into various different market sectors such as Rail and Oil & Gas, and formed customer partnerships in geographical areas such as North America, Australia and the Middle east.
Exciting and innovative plans continue to develop within the Company.
