Live History Performance: Annie Gilruth

Date & Time

Wednesday, Sep 26, 2018 at 19:00 - 21:00

Annie Gilruth made a difference in the village of Auchmithie in the late nineteenth century. She was a Victorian farmer’s wife and mother of six children who lived at Seaton of Auchmithie farm. She was instrumental in raising funds to build a village hall in 1888 (now the Annie Gilruth Memorial Hall); raising both educational and living standards for the villagers; and making improvements to Auchmithie harbour.

Ann Craig will deliver an exciting live history performance bringing Annie Gilruth vividly to life based on Annie’s own memoirs; giving us a glimpse into Auchmithie’s rich history and traditions. Ann Craig is a former drama teacher and performer in the biannual Auchmithie HAAR (Heritage Arts Auchmithie) Festival.

The event is one of a series of talks and performances accompanying our ‘Sisters Are Doing it For Themselves: Pioneering Women in Angus’ display. Find out from our female speakers and performers about women from Angus who made an impact in history, as well as those whose work is helping to shape culture, economics and communities in Angus today.

The live history performances in the events programme have been funded by an award to ANGUSalive from the Scottish Government Vote Centenary Grant Scheme.
