The past few years have devastated Scotland’s Hospitality & Tourism industry, and employers have faced challenges, including the pandemic, spiralling energy and supply costs and staff shortages. This event will focus on the tools at our disposal to weather this ‘perfect storm’ while ensuring staff feel valued and supported.
Aimed at Hospitality & Tourism employers, the event will be an opportunity to reflect on some of the sector's challenges and explore opportunities to develop resilience through fair work practices.
Guest speaker - Gary Maclean: The ever-changing world of Hospitality
Born in Glasgow, multi-award-winning chef Gary Maclean has been at the heart of the Scottish hospitality industry for 35 years.
In December 2016 he was crowned the champion of BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals after taking on 47 other professional chefs in pursuit of gastronomic glory. The Scottish Government has also awarded Gary the title of Scotland’s National Chef. In this voluntary role, Gary supports the Scottish Government in food health, education and the promotion of Scotland’s amazing produce around the world.
Gary will talk about his experiences of being an ambassador for Scottish food and food education and some of the challenges facing the Hospitality sector in Scotland.
Attendees will also hear from Gordon McIntyre, founder of Hospitality Health – a charity focusing on supporting staff in the fantastic world of Hospitality and helping employers better understand how to ensure employee wellbeing. In addition, a panel of Dundee-based employers sharing their experiences of engaging with Fair Work, including The Selkie and Dundee Science Centre.
The audience will further explore the theme of resilience with a panel of employers, who will speak more about the benefits (as well as challenges) of implementing fair work and sustainable practices in their business.
During the event, attendees will have an opportunity to speak with organisations offering support for businesses within the local area, including Zero Waste Scotland, NHS Public Health Scotland and Business Gateway.
Guests are invited to Networking & Nibbles from the end of the session until 6 pm.
This event is free to attend and open to both members and non-members. The event is coordinated by Living Wage Scotland, Dundee Living Wage City Action Group and the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce.
