The launch of Upstream Battle on the Tay in August 2021 followed the release of exclusive new research conducted on people in the Tayside area, which showed that over 90% of people would like more action to be taken to prevent litter from getting out to sea; and over 80% of people would be more interested in learning about the steps they could take to avoid their rubbish from making its way to the sea.

Since Blue Planet 2 came out in 2018, the public has become more aware of the increasing amount of litter and plastic in our oceans. However, 80% of marine debris comes from land, washed into gutters, blown into streams, and carelessly discarded.

Launched in response to the vast public and political concern around marine litter over the last four years, Upstream Battle – the first source-to-sea campaign of its kind in Scotland - has supported communities to raise awareness, gather evidence and inspire action in Glasgow and the Clyde Valley.

Building on the campaign's success on the Clyde, Upstream Battle flows to the majestic River Tay – Scotland's longest river.

This event will be an opportunity for Dundee (River Tay) based businesses to attend an event where they can learn about the Upstream Battle campaign and how to get involved in supporting the campaign, hear from senior members of organisations on how the campaign supports their organisational sustainability objectives and to network with like-minded businesses.
