In Chamber Shoes - Dominykas Hallam

Dom joined the Dundee & Angus Chamber about 3 weeks ago, with a key focus on social media and ensuring that news articles and events are up to date. Dom also helps Donna at the reception and takes part in DACC events to meet members & gain experience.

Coming home from Manchester

On Monday I didn’t attend work because I was still in Manchester, I got back around 4ish in the afternoon, just in time for my dinner. I didn’t do anything particularly exciting after dinner because I was exhausted from the weekend. During my weekend I went to Parklife, a giant music festival in Manchester, at Heaton park. My time there has gone down as one of the best weekends of my life, because of the people I met and the people who I went with (my mate Gregor and my mate Jake) who were both great to hang around with. The atmosphere there was immaculate, everyone was dancing, enjoying the music, as was I. My favourite artist was Skepta, although there were many great acts like, Nina Kraviz, Dennis Sulta and Carl Cox. I wish to return next year but it all depends on the acts that are on and if my friends are willing to go again!

Back to work!

Today was quite normal and back to the DACC office for the start of week 3. I scheduled the news articles for the upcoming week and went downstairs to watch what Donna does at the reception as I will start working there soon. I listened to some Biggie Smalls (who is a rap Artist) and before I knew it, it was time to go home. When I got home, me and my friends decided to go and see the new Deadpool movie. The Film was very thrilling to watch, and the one liners were great, and after the film ended I went straight home to my bed after an exhausting day.

Focussing on Social Media

Today was focussed on the Chambers social media and ensuring we are following our members. I’ve printed off a list of the full membership and I’m working my way through it so we can easily keep in touch with what our members are doing on Facebook, LinkedIn & Twitter. It’s a bit of a lengthy task but interesting to see how all the members use the different platforms. I managed to listen to a podcast called “the Joe Rogan experience” which I found very interesting and would recommend to anyone who is fascinated by nutrition, comedy or even MMA.

Meeting the members

My day started off by coming in at 8:50am, grabbing a cup of coffee and turning my computer on. I did my usual routine where I would put up and schedule news articles for the day. I would proceed to monitor the social media activities by liking or reposting posts from our members to raise their profiles. Then around half 1:30pm I would go with Dan to meet Xeretec, who are a leading integrator of digital print hardware, software, solutions and services. This was my first ever member meeting because I’ve only been here for around two weeks, so it was a good chance for me to experience what Dan does. The meeting ended around 2:00pm which for me was the start of lunch. After lunch I only had 2 hours left, so I continued to update our social media until it was time to go home at 5:00pm.

Reception

My first day working as a receptionist was quite awkward, it’s something that I’ve never done before, so it’s more of a challenge for me, however I do think that I will be able to adjust to the role despite struggling with it at first. Answering the phone is something that I’m not too keen on, I do see myself as friendly and a good person to talk too, but talking to someone I don’t know is something that I need to get used too. The end of busy 3rd week, but I’m learning lots and look forward to meeting more members as the weeks continue!
