In Your Shoes - Amy Anderson

Amy Anderson is the Business Development Consultant for DP&L Group.

DP&L Group, established in 1826 as the Dundee, Perth and London Shipping Company, diversified into new markets when the shipping industry came to an end in Dundee. The group is made up of firms DP&L Travel, DP&L Travel Management, Key Personnel, Alison & Stiven, Alison & Stiven Marquee Hire and DP&L Golf, offering services in corporate and leisure travel, recruitment, industrial, cleaning and catering supplies, marquees and golf packages.

One Woman Many Hats…

Monday is here again after another quick weekend.

First on the agenda this morning is to catch up with Mark and Jonny from Allison & Stiven get up to speed with what offers they have on their cleaning, catering and workwear products, before heading out to do a few catalogues drops around the area.

This afternoon, I’ve got a different hat on – corporate travel.   Following up on recent visits to businesses on the phone and following up on recent email enquiries via our Travel Management website.

This evening heading to the gym for a Bootcamp Circuits class – going to feel that for a few days.

Launch Day

Been a very busy day in the office, preparing for the launch of our new business networking event called “Connect and Share”!

Shona and I began networking back in May last year with the target of greatly raising awareness of the DP&L Group, our businesses and our services within a year.

We decided to launch Connect and Share to connect businesses in Dundee and surrounding areas allowing connections, ideas, experiences and referrals to be shared with other likeminded individuals in a relaxed informal environment on a fortnightly basis.

We had such a great turnout - more than we could have ever imagined, with such a fantastic mix of businesses and faces old and new.

Mingling in Fife

I’m spending the day in Fife today. First stop: The Business Hub Fife in Glenrothes.  It was my turn to do a 10-minute presentation about the business – my first time without a PowerPoint presentation, gulp!

I’m working out of the St Andrews shop for the rest of the day, catching up with the team here, ensuring that our corporate and leisure clients alike are all happy with the service. Also finding out what the top destinations are and the deals everyone is booking for their holidays.

This evening it’s St Andrews Business Club’s Networking event at the beautiful Old Course Hotel.  Guest speakers for the evening are Keith Winter from Fife Council and Professor Brad MacKay from St Andrews University, sharing their take on what opportunities will 2018 will raise. It’s great to catch up with everyone in the North-East Fife area too, first time since the Christmas break.

Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!

Today my partner in crime is Eric, manager of Key Personnel. It is great to catch up with him, finding out how the world of recruitment is at the moment and checking in to see how interviews for our retail positions at The Open are going.

We are in Aberdeen to attend the Granite PR Burns Supper, which is being held to celebrate 10 years of Granite PR.

The company offers PR services in Scotland with a focus in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, most recently Dundee and Angus, Houston, Texas, and Norway. After meeting MD Brett Jackson at the DACC AGM last summer he has since provided a wealth of contacts and through events such as the Aberdeen Perth (Australia) Gateway connected DP&L with other businesses further afield as well.

We had a fantastic evening with great food, great entertainment, company and an amazing £6000 raised for the charity Flying Start.

Easing into Weekend

After getting home in the early hours of the morning, I’m surprised I’ve made it into the office before 9am!

After having such a busy week and out of the office, the plan of action is to catch up on emails, plan my next week’s social media and with trips to Aberdeen, Stirling and Edinburgh over the next couple of weeks, start making plans for what I need for each trip.

After doing all this and catching up with the guys in the office I decide to make the most of this beautiful day and head home via Crombie Country Park to blow off the cobwebs with a gentle relaxing stroll.

Family Time

This morning starts off with a bit of a stress attempting to get our hands on Britney Spears tickets, using 4 phones and 2 laptops we were eventually successful.   After a little celebratory dance around the kitchen, we head out on the road again, this time visiting family.

With both my partner and I’s families in Glasgow and Peterhead we perhaps don’t get to see them as often as we would like so there is always a buzz in the air when we are heading for a family visit.

We are heading down to Glasgow today to celebrate my partner’s mum’s birthday with a get-together meal at the Red Onion Restaurant in Glasgow’s city centre. It was great to catch up with everyone – first time since Christmas.  Great food, wine and company – it was such a shame when the meal was over, and we headed back up to Dundee.

Being A Bit of A Tourist

Having lived in Dundee for nearly a year and a half now I do have a confession to make: I’ve not really ventured out to the local tourist attractions. But today we headed to Broughty Castle, having walked on the beach too many times to count and admired it from afar. Having studied the Anglo-Scots Wars and the Wars of The Three Kingdoms, I loved learning about the part that the Castle played in these wars.

Then we headed for a cosy seat in the cinema.   With both my partner and I having the Cineworld Unlimited cards we like to take advantage of watching as many films as possible.  Today’s showing is Disney Pixar’s Coco, it’s such a beautiful film visually and has a wonderful story.

Then I headed for home and wrapped up the day with a good book; all relaxed, energised and ready for another busy week ahead.
