Margaret Linn, Manager, Business Recovery and Insolvency at Henderson Loggie.

All work and no play…..

Who said accountancy firms are dull! After close of business we held a race night, the first staff event to be held in our new offices. Not only a hugely enjoyable evening but hugely successful in raising funds for Sarcoma UK, our nominated charity this year.

Where will I end up today?

Working in insolvency requires sensible shoes. We have to mobilise as soon as we are appointed to a case, and individuals or businesses in distress want immediate advice, so high heels are not the most practical footwear when you unexpectedly find yourself heading to a building site or a farm.

Viable business can be rescued with early advice.

Today the sensible shoes were swapped for the high heels under my desk when a phone call generated a meeting from a business in need of some advice. It was a positive outcome as there were options to either restructure or enter a business DAS to rescue the business.

Thank goodness I can call on specialists!

Every day is a school day! Not all of my clients are insolvent. Today I had to seek some specialised advice from our tax department to help me ascertain the most tax efficient way to distribute assets in a Members Voluntary Liquidation.

It’s good to talk.

As a manager I hold monthly meeting with the individual case operators to discuss case work but in addition, this Thursday, I attended the monthly department meeting where we openly discuss any issues or good ideas that will benefit the whole team.
