In Your Shoes - Catherine Robertson

Robertson Collaborate provides marketing and digital commerce strategy and support for growth businesses. It is run by Catherine and John Robertson, who create marketing plans and help deliver them too. Here Catherine takes us through her week.

You’ve got to practise what you preach

Monday kicks off with us having our own management meeting, reviewing performance against our plan. Between John and me we’re helping over a dozen businesses in May with their strategic marketing planning so it’s also time to check we’re on track to deliver everything as outsourced “marketing directors” on time!

The start of the Scottish strawberry season

The strawberry season is upon us (my favourite time of year) and I’m delighted to provide some marketing support to a local farm through Business Gateway. Leadketty Farm grows strawberries and raspberries, and Stephen Corrigall and I talk business whilst we sample some freshly picked produce, on my suggestion!

It’s all in the planning

I love visiting clients at their premises and have a catch-up with client Mike Piper at CXR Biosciences on what’s going on in the sector, including the forthcoming Bio Dundee conference. Back at HQ, I spend the rest of the day developing plans for growth for a couple of clients.

Fellow DACC member contact

When we create marketing plans we recommend partners who can help deliver them too. And we often partner with Claire Grainger of Grainger PR for media engagement. We’ve got a handful of clients in common just now so we have a breakfast meeting to run through progress with each.

Continuous learning as marketing evolves

I follow the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Continuous Professional Development programme, which means I spend 35+ hours yearly learning the latest marketing know-how. Today’s subject in Edinburgh is learning from CIM’s CEO about industry-leading marketing insights from respected SMEs. Back on the train for a relaxing Friday evening….
