In Your Shoes - Donna Bell

Donna has worked for the Chamber for nearly two years and is the Board Secretary. Along with her Board responsibilites she is also involved with Special Events at the Chamber. This week she wrote about the run up to the Chamber Golf day.

Monday

I always start the week clearing the emails – not always doable but something I attempt to do every Monday. It gives me the chance to check to see what news has come in and what extra needs to go up on the Chamber website and also to check to see if any of the Board members need anything. It’s all go for the Golf Tournament on Friday so finalising all the last little points – keeping my fingers crossed for good weather. Shoes today are comfy – email me if you know what movie the carpet reminds you of ? (First one back gets a jar of jam). donnabell@dundeeandanguschamber.co.uk

Tuesday

Booked a day off as it is my mum’s 70 Birthday. We had a surprise Afternoon tea Birthday Party for her on Sunday and have a family dinner on Saturday but wanted to spend the day with her on her actual birthday. Started the day with a coffee in one of our favourite cafes then on to a very nice restaurant for lunch and then a pleasant afternoon window shopping before I had to dash off to pick up my son. Lovely day. No shoes today just some very tasty grub.

Wednesday

Still have a couple of spaces left for the golf so a bit of a phone around today trying to fill them. We had a few cancellations because companies are so busy which is great for Dundee but not so great for our Tournament. We had lovely Laura Lucas from Inspirential use the room for an hour today – great to see it getting used – remember one hour is free – great way to meet clients without the noise of a café! Today’s shoes are old favourites.

Thursday

Finalising a few of the last minute things for the Golf tomorrow. Check list - All Banners at the ready. All handicaps in and scoring cards done. Trophies for the winners on my desk. Cool bags for refreshments during the tournament. Email out to all players with list of players and rules of the club. Heard the weather might not be great for tomorrow fingers crossed the players get back before it pours! Shoes today are killing me – why do we do it!

Friday

Golf day has arrived. At the Chamber early to load up my car, pick Alison up on the way and arrive at Panmure, meet Rebecca there. Have enough time to organise the room; Pop ups in place, chat with Billy Thomson from Langstane who are kindly sponsoring the goody bags, check with the staff at Panmure and organise the serving of brunch.

Our lovely board members Dave Valentine and Colin Loveday arrive to help – they have been a great help in the run up to the event and have kept me right. After something to eat Colin says a few words to the groups before all the player head out into the sunny afternoon. Once play begins Rebecca and I load up the Golf buggy with drinks and snacks ready for our tour of the course. Have to say we had a great time speaking to the players and handing out our goodies. The last hour saw the weather change and not only did it start to rain but it got get quite chilly and by the end I couldn’t feel my feet! Heard some great comments from the players about the course before all head in for our high tea. Dave presented the trophies for winning team to DC Thomson, runner up team were GS Group and winning player Billy from Langstane, runner up Ross Graham who was with the GS Group. Well done to everyone who took part and congratulation to the winners. A big thank you to all our sponsors: DC Thomsons, Langstane, Panmure, Simpson's Golf Shop in conjuction with Lochcarron of Scotland and Oakley. Today's shoes are of course my golf shoes – maybe next year I will play!

Saturday

The weekend has arrived - yippee - catch up with all my chores, take son to the swimming, weekly shop - cheat and have shop bought pizza and at the end of the day it is feet up with a large glass of wine and as the sun is shining it has to be a rose!
