In Your Shoes - Eleanor Yearwood

Executive Coach and Team Facilitator. I love to work with managers and their teams to help them improve communication and interactions so that they can achieve their goals and objectives. I work as an executive coach on a one to one basis and also as a team facilitator helping teams to work more effectively together.

What I love about my work

My work is so fabulously different every day and this week is no exception. Yesterday saw me working with a group of beauty therapists at Peebles Hydro. They are wanting to build a cohesive team culture and effectively communicate with everyone in the business. And today, Monday I’m meeting with a CEO of a large housing association talking about working with their top team to look at Strengthscope and how to strengthen an already great team which has some new members and members in new roles in the team.

Dog walks

Coaching first thing then catch up with administration in the afternoon followed by a long walk with my friend and our dogs.

San Francisco

Flew out to San Francisco to work with a new team of software engineers. The flight was brilliant. Anyone flying to America I would highly recommend Delta Airways. Stopped at Salt Lake City and then landed in SF about 4pm so had the evening to acclimatise myself before working with the team Thursday and Friday. Tony (Team Leader and Software Director) took me out for a great seafood dinner at Scotts Restaurant.

Trip to Alameda

Drove over to Alameda. Not what I was expecting. Thought it was going to be all modern buildings and high tech. Our agenda was packed with all sorts to do with looking at where we are now as a team. What is it that we are looking to achieve? What do we need to change in order to achieve this? Who’s going to do what?

How people tick

Today was focused on understanding one another using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) This has been around for over 60 years and is used in most large organisation as well as small businesses and their teams. It’s a great way to understand what makes people tick. How do they take in information, make decisions, structure their world and whether they are more introverted or extraverted in their energy. This brought a new of looking at things into focus for the team.

Sea otters and sea lions

Tony drove us down to Monterey Bay where we took a canoe out to see the sea otters and hundreds of sea lions. Then down to Carmel (where Clint Eastwood was voted Mayor in 1986) Gorgeous little town with amazing ice-cream shop.

Off piste!

Sunday was a drive North over the bridge (with two names – changes depending on which direction you’re travelling!) to Mount Tamalpais. Had a 3 hour trek and went slightly off piste!  (Lost at one point) all fun

Monday Into San Francisco by 7.30am for a taste of sea food, ride on a tram and a picture of The Golden Gate Bridge. Couldn’t see the bridge yesterday when we were heading up The Marin Headway, as it was under a thick blanket of fog. Then headed back to the airport for my journey home. Not your usual week, but then again I don’t really have usual...

Oh and the best bit is I have another couple of days with the sales team in Wokingham in July as a result of this off-site... now that’s how I like to get introductions.
