The ANGUSalive Sports Awards 2018 is looking to celebrate the achievements of sporting individuals and teams across Angus.

With strong entries so far from sporting areas such as gymnastics, curling, skating, football and rugby. The team are looking forward to receiving more applications across a wide variety of sports.

Each year the awards have continued to raise the profile of sporting champions from those who compete at a high level to those who simply achieve individual and local successes in promoting and providing participation opportunities for anyone in Angus.

Last year’s Schools Sports Volunteer Stewart Ferguson, led the support stages of the extracurricular football club throughout 2017, delivering sessions weekly at Southmuir Primary School. Many of the pupils have gone on to join Kirrie Thistle Youths Football Club, where Stewart is also a coach. In addition to his commitment to coaching the club for up to 25 pupils per week, Stewart also organises the team to take part in festivals and helping with transport. Stewart continually promotes sportsmanship, fair play and inclusion at all his sessions.

Stewart Ferguson, winner of the Schools Sports Volunteer award 2017, commented:

“I have continued to support Southmuir Primary School throughout 2018 which has included the promotion of football, allowing more opportunities for boys and girls to play.”
