Local youth-led mental health charity Feeling Strong has announced a partnership with students from Abertay University to develop an app for young people facing mental health challenges in Dundee. The purpose of the app is to signpost to local resources, encourage recovery and share stories relating to mental health in Dundee.

The student team had this to say: “We believe that mental health contributes massively to a person’s overall well-being. Students and young people in general are particularly susceptible to mental health problems and we wish for every young person to be able to receive the help they truly deserve. Having lost a best friend to depression earlier this year, our group leader found it important to take on this task and help Feeling Strong with the development of this impactful platform. Positive mental health is of major importance and we strongly stand by promoting it.”

Brook Marshall, Project Director of Feeling Strong commented: “We have high hopes for what the Student team can accomplish - their work has been excellent so far and they’ve shown a strong commitment to the social good of the project”.

The supervising Abertay University staff member Dr Andrea Szymkowiak commented “This project is an excellent example of the vocational nature of our modules, whereby students work on real-life projects as part of their academic experience”. Programme Leader for the BSc in Computing programme Dr Gavin Hales added “Mental health is such an important issue, and impacts so many people in different ways. I'm really happy to have a group of our 3rd Year BSc (Hons) Computing students working closely with Feeling Strong to address this issue as part of their course“.
