Almost £1m is set to be spent improving more than 200 city homes if councillors give the works the green light.

Tenders for replacement boilers at houses in the Dens, Blackness and St Mary’s areas and replacement roofs in parts of Charleston are included in the programme.

Kevin Cordell convener of Dundee City council’s neighbourhood services committee said: “It is important that we make sure our housing stock continues to meet the standards that we expect in the 21st century and that takes a considerable amount of investment.

“This money will ensure that the residents of these properties have energy efficient and effective boilers and well insulated roofs.”

Worth a total of £989,505, the work is recommended to go to Dundee City Council’s contract services division.  If approved it will start at Dunholm Terrace and South Road  later month going through the year with the last to finish being the boiler replacements in Corso Street in November.

The neighbourhood services committee meet on Monday (April 22).

Dundee City Council

Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
