Overgate, Dundee announces support for Scottish autism's 'My Five' campaign

Overgate in Dundee has announced it is supporting Scottish Autism throughout the month of January with the organisation’s ‘My Five’ campaign.

Scottish Autism is the largest provider of autism-specific services in Scotland and a leading authority and advocate for good autism practice.

Aiming to create a more accessible and welcoming environment for the autistic community, the ‘My Five’ campaign is running a public consultation to hear what small adjustments retailers and other businesses could make to create a more welcoming and accessible environment for autistic individuals and their families.

As part of this consultation, Overgate is hosting a suggestion box at its Customer Service Desk where recommendations can be submitted on comment cards provided.

The top five suggestions collated from this public consultation will then inform a free downloadable resource available to all retailers and businesses.

Overgate’s involvement in this latest public consultation follows the success of its Quiet Hour trial. This has resulted in a permanent quiet hour every Sunday between 11am and 12pm in the centre where stores adjust their lighting and turn off in-store music where possible.

Malcolm Angus, Centre Manager, Overgate commented;

“We are pleased to be continuing to work with Scottish Autism following the positive response to Overgate’s quiet hour. The centre is committed to providing a more welcoming experience for autistic customers and being involved with the ‘My Five’ campaign and the public consultation gives Overgate the opportunity to hopefully help influence beneficial change further.”
