Staff and residents at Balhousie Clement Park Care Home in Dundee are looking forward to an all singing and dancing programme of Christmas entertainment this week.
Youngsters from Woodlea Nursery will join residents for two performances of carol singing at 9.30am and 1pm on Tuesday 19 December, and residents will enjoy their Christmas dance with entertainment provided by Songbook Melody on Friday 22 December from 2pm.
A series of festive events and concerts are planned across all of Balhousie Care Group's homes in the run up to Christmas as staff look forward to getting into the spirit, doing a turn and sharing a laugh.
It's a time of year that can be particularly difficult for the elderly, people who've lost their partners or whose children have moved too far away to visit.
Age Concern estimates that 1.9 million people over the age of 65 often feel invisible or ignored, 1.4 million also feel cut off from society and 3.6 million admit that their television is their main form of company during winter when the weather makes it difficult for older people to get out and about.
Balhousie's 25 care homes across the north east of Scotland are working with local authorities to identify people in the community who may want to join them for Christmas dinner.
"A lot of people assume that older people are surrounded by friends and family, especially at this time of year. Sadly, that's not the case for everyone," says Balhousie Care Group CEO, Steve White.
