SCC Comment: Prime Minister's statement on the Brexit negotiations

Published

24th September 2018

Following the Prime Minister's statement on the Brexit negotiations, Liz Cameron OBE, Director and Chief Executive, Scottish Chambers of Commerce said,

"We welcome the updates from the Prime Minister on the ongoing status of negotiations with the European Union. The Prime Minister has made a clear commitment to guarantee the rights of EU citizens currently in the UK, regardless of the outcome of the negotiations. Businesses in Scotland will welcome this commitment and will expect clear guidance to be made available swiftly.

“Whilst the Prime Minister is dedicated and committed to securing a good outcome, the business community expects negotiators from both sides to get down to business with a sense of urgency and pace. The time for posturing is over. A tangible and practical deal must be agreed.

"Businesses need answers now, and without a clear way forward, key decisions including future investments and workforce planning will be at stake. We want to avoid any signs of a disorderly outcome, especially one which could impact on the ability of our economy to grow and our businesses to trade."
