Stop Digging in Scotland

A Dundee energy and construction company has been appointed approved installer in Scotland for an innovative system which is transforming the way foundations are laid.

GoSustainable, which offers commercial joinery and building services, providing intelligent and energy-efficient solutions for new build and refurbishment projects across Scotland, is now the exclusive installer of ‘Stop Digging’, Europe’s market-leading supplier and installer of ground screw foundations.

Taking just five minutes per screw to install and at around a third of the cost of digging out and casting traditional concrete foundations, the versatile system provides strong and effective foundations to suit the structural needs of a range of domestic and commercial applications.

From large semi-permanent buildings and temporary structures at shows and events, to home extensions, decking and garden rooms, Stop Digging can also secure architectural structures such as benches, signs and fence posts into any landscape, regardless of ground conditions or temperature.

For clients requiring temporary structures, Stop Digging ground screws can also be removed and installed elsewhere, with no trace of use or surface damage left on the original location. The system also avoids the need for heavy, noisy machinery, skip hire or extensive ground clearance.

With training complete and contracts signed, GoSustainable Managing Director Callum Milne believes that the collaboration will greatly strengthen the company’s services portfolio.

Speaking from his new premises in Broughty Ferry, Mr Milne said, “We are delighted to be appointed the exclusive installer of Stop Digging for Scotland and believe this marks an exciting stage in what we can offer both domestic and commercial clients.

“The Stop Digging system can be installed quickly, efficiently, all-year round and at a fraction of the cost of conventional foundation systems, even in areas with limited access. Stop Digging also complements our company’s offering as a whole and, in particular, our commitment to innovation and sustainability as the system has virtually no environmental impact. There is no digging involved or a need to remove large quantities of existing soil, therefore no mess or waste for landfill, and no need for pouring extensive concrete foundations.

“What’s more, with savings on labour time – often from a few hours’ work instead of several days - and the ability to keep working whatever the weather, it’s also a cleaner and more affordable alternative to traditional foundations – meaning less cost and more convenience.”

Stop Digging was founded in the UK by Darryl Gregory, Managing Director in 2014, under licence from the Swedish parent company which has been trading since 2012.

Mr Gregory said, “We are delighted to welcome Go Sustainable to the Stop Digging partner network. It was clear from the first meeting we had with Callum Milne that he recognised the benefits that our system offers in so many different applications and wanted to jump on-board as soon as possible. There is a clear synergy between Stop Digging and the other services offered by GoSustainable, and the staff show a positive, hardworking, can-do attitude – and ultimately they are the face of the Stop Digging Brand and critical to our continued growth. “

Rugged and strong, the galvanized tapered steel screws are available in different lengths and diameters. When driven into the ground, they form a solid platform onto which posts, other items of landscape architecture or a structural framework for a building can be securely and permanently affixed. Truly sustainable, this bio diverse foundations solution is ideal for the conservation minded as, should the structure ever need to be moved or removed, the screws can simply be extracted. The ground is left un-scared, except for a grid of small holes, and the underlying soil will then quickly recover and the grass re-grows, leaving absolutely no trace. The screws can then be re-located and re-installed in a new location.

The company now has over 150 certified installers across 11 countries, from Scandinavia and the Baltic States to Germany. With its own R&D department and manufacturing operations in both Sweden and Asia, Stop Digging can adapt the screws and accessories to the climate and to the measurements required by the building regulations in each country in which it operates. All products are CE marked and its production facilities are ISO-certified.
