DUNDEE’S streets are set to sing, dance and shake with the first Summer Street Festival.

The two day event in the city centre is supported by EventScotland, part of VisitScotland’s Events Directorate, and will offer a vibrant mix of entertainment for all ages.

While The 147th Open is playing out at nearby Carnoustie this weekend the Dundee Summer Streets Festival will include the centrepiece aerial show in City Square, mini golf in Reform Street, food and drink and a children's play bunker area in Albert Square.

There will be 20 music acts playing across Reform Street, City Square and Albert Square outside the McManus. Reform Street will also be the location of the Parklet, a seating area/park which takes the place of parking spaces, to increase public areas in the city.

It will also mark the starting point of Open/Close tours at 10am, 1pm and 4pm.

All or Nothing Aerial Dance Theatre will be in City Square performing and running drop in public workshops before presenting their show “Swing is in the Air” at 8pm on Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday.

On Sunday the Creative Market has given young people free stalls to sell crafts.

Dundee City Council

Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
