Tayside Regional Director of the Year award for Helm CEO

Helm's CEO, Helen Sykes was awarded the Tayside Regional Director of the Year at this year's prestigious IOD awards. The announcement was made at the annual IOD awards dinner on 22 March.

Helen is really delighted and says she feels very privileged to be recognised for her work, but she knows as do all leaders that it is always the work of the whole team which is at the heart of any success, together with the strengths and determination of the terrific young people we work with every day.

The team at Helm are hugely proud to have our work recognised at this level, and we all hope that it will help raise greater awareness of the challenges faced by many young people all over Scotland.

What's next for Helm...

Tay Cities Deal

Helm hope to crown this regional recognition later this year by being enabled to start work on our Aspire and Achieve collaboration project, one of the inclusive growth projects which are pending the Scottish and UK Government seal of approval in the forthcoming Tay Cities Deal. This project (which involves youthwork, business and education partners) will enable hundreds of the region's most challenged young people to aspire to, secure and sustain a place in further education who otherwise would not apply - allowing them to level the playing field for themselves, and leading to apprenticeship or new job opportunities in our growing region with good prospects of progression.

New Regional Award for Businesses

Helen will also be using her year as Regional Director to develop and launch a new award to recognise all Tayside businesses who take simple, practical and positive action to enable young people to make a successful first transition into working lives. The award will be launched later this year (which is of course also Year of Young People).
