Transatlantic Business Event Comes to Dundee

Forging links between Angus and the energy capital of the world will be the focus of a new business event taking place in Dundee next week.

The annual Aberdeen-Houston Gateway, hosted by Granite PR and held in association with the Greater Houston Partnership in 2019, has become a much-anticipated fixture on the business calendar, annually sparking interest from both sides of the Atlantic in the opportunity to network and knowledge share on an international platform.

In a bid to lengthen the bridge established by the Aberdeen-Houston Gateway, this year’s seventh annual event will grow to encompass Dundee thanks to: “Houston Meets Dundee.” Building on the success of the recent inaugural Dundee & Angus Expo, this portion of the programme will be held in association with Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, March 27th.  It will create a platform from which Scottish and American delegates can explore the many opportunities which exist between Dundee, Angus, Houston and Texas. Networking and knowledge sharing opportunities will combine with an examination of how to further strengthen the links between the locations.

Another highlight of a busy week will be the flagship Aberdeen-Houston Gateway lunch at Macdonald Norwood Hall Hotel, Aberdeen on March 26th, a session which regularly draws an audience in excess of 120.

Making the trip to Scotland will be a delegation of leading Houston business representatives including event chairman Jeffrey Blair (Greater Houston Partnership), Alan McCartney (OMNI Flow), Andrew Derry (British International School of Houston), Andy Grieve (Hampco and G-Tech Innovation Center), Frank Landreneau (PKF Texas), Lorna Ramsay (Houston Grampian Association) and Derek Blackwood OBE (Global Scot).

Commenting on plans for the 2019 event, Granite PR founder and managing director, and Aberdeen-Houston Gateway creator Brett Jackson said: “Last year was our best attended Aberdeen-Houston Gateway since 2014, clearly demonstrating the appetite which still exists for the knowledge this event imparts to delegates.  Taking the event to Dundee is a natural progression for the event and we hope that it will serve as a useful, international addition to the local business networking calendar.

“On the build-up to the 50th OTC in May, at which we will be exhibiting, we are again indebted to all those who have thrown their support behind the Aberdeen-Houston Gateway, particularly those who will make the journey from Texas to be with us.”

Jeffrey Blair, Director Europe, Middle East & Africa for the Greater Houston Partnership added: “I am honored once again to chair this year’s Aberdeen-Houston Gateway event for the second year in a row.  I am keen to hear about what is new and to share what is new in the area of innovation in Greater Houston, centered around energy but also in other industries that have ‘crossover appeal’.”

Granite PR, which celebrated a decade in business last year, has carved a strong reputation for delivering business events which create opportunities to establish and grow links between Aberdeen and fellow energy hubs.  The inaugural Gateway linked Aberdeen with Houston in March 2013 and, since then, a total of 16 events have been held focusing on a growing list of locations such as Norway, Perth WA, the United Arab Emirates and Guyana.

The 2019 Aberdeen-Houston Gateway is supported by Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, British Consulate General Houston, British International School of Houston, Burness Paull LLP, Business Plus Scotland, DLR Media, Energy Industries Council, Grampian-Houston Association, Greater Houston Partnership, G-Tech Innovation Center, Hampco, Invest Aberdeen, Katy EDC, Keller Williams, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, Munro’s Travel Ltd, PKF Texas/Johnston Carmichael (Scotland), OMNI Flow, Press and Journal/Energy Voice, Scottish Development International.

The seventh annual Aberdeen-Houston Gateway lunch will be held on Tuesday, March 26th at 11.30am for 12noon until 2pm at Macdonald Norwood Hall Hotel, Aberdeen.  To find out more or to book a place, email brettjackson@granitepr.co.uk or bernie@bpscotland.co.uk
