Girls in Dundee are being given an inspirational insight into the world of work at an event designed to give them a head-start in their future careers.

Now in its fifth year, Michelin’s ‘Inspiring Females’ event takes place later this month, with students from secondary schools across the city invited to take part.

Aimed at encouraging female students to be inspired by the successful women who live and work locally, the girls will gain insight and encouragement to help shape their own career ambitions.

Taking place at the Michelin Athletic Club on Friday, October 26, the young audience will be welcomed by representatives from the legal world, manufacturing, the arts, wellbeing, engineering, business and the prison service.

Role models such as Jennifer Thomson and Tara Watson of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, as well as Fiona Cassidy, a senior structural engineer with ARUP - the company that took the V&A Dundee from concept to concrete – will be among those present.

Together the inspirational women will share the achievements and the challenges they’ve faced during the course of their careers, with the aim of raising aspirations and encouraging the girls to expand their horizons when they enter the world of work.

Last year 70 female pupils took part in the event, which is organised by the personnel team at Michelin’s Baldovie Road site.

Michelin personnel manager, Lorna Reid, said: “The Inspiring Females event has gone from strength to strength over the years, providing an atmosphere of support and collaboration for girls as they start to make decisions about their futures.

“We are indebted to the inspirational women who give up their time to support the initiative and to the girls over the years who have come along and made it a success.”
