Xplore Dundee is playing its part in the Festival of Museums this weekend (Saturday 20th May) alongside its partners The McManus and Dundee Museum of Transport.

Two of the bus operator’s flagship vehicles – the Corporation bus and the McManus bus – will be situated outside McManus Galleries all day for this Saturday’s celebration of its 150th anniversary.  McManus 150: The People’s Story takes place from 10am to 4.30pm and promises family activities, live music, poetry, dance, guided tours and living history performances.

Xplore Dundee Managing Director Elsie Turbyne said:

“We’re very pleased to be supporting the Festival of Museums, and especially to be celebrating 150 years of The McManus.  It’s an excellent opportunity to team up with our partners at Dundee Museum of Transport and tell the stories of the bus and tram drivers who have kept Dundee moving over the years.  I hope everyone who attends will enjoy boarding our two vehicles and celebrating the city’s rich transport and cultural history.”

On board the green Corporation Bus, volunteers from Dundee Museum of Transport will be discussing the city’s transport heritage, with a photographic display and archive materials.  Meanwhile, the McManus Bus will be hosting ‘Small Stories’ with Museum and Gallery themed stories for kids and their parents.

Samantha Bannerman, Dundee Museum of Transport’s manager said:

“Visitors will enjoy a trip down memory lane on-board the Corporation Bus this Saturday. We are delighted to play a part in the Festival of Museums McManus 150: The People’s Story celebrations, whilst strengthening our already close links with Xplore Dundee and The McManus”.
