DACC Demands MSP Backing for Business Rates Campaign

Published

Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce has written to all of the MSP in Dundee and Angus (including the List MSPs for this region) demanding that they support our campaign for action from the Scottish Government to provide more support to the many businesses reeling from large increases in their business rates bills.  The Government's own figures show that two out of every five businesses have seen their business rates rise following the recent revaluation.  It is simply unfair that Scotland's businesses aren't getting their rates bills frozen when every household in the land has had its Council Tax frozen now for two years.  And it isn't right that businesses in this country are denied the support on this issue that is being made available to businesses in Northern Ireland (where the revaluation wasn't applied because of the recession) and England (where transitional relief has been made available to cushion the blow of rising bills).  DACC will continue to work with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce to get Scottish Ministers to intervene to remedy these inequalities.
