Axeon Group acquired by Johnson Matthey

Europe's largest independent Lithium-ion battery systems supplier.

Dundee-based Axeon Group has been acquired by Johnson Matthey, an international speciality chemicals company, founded almost 200 years ago.

Axeon develops and manufactures battery modules and systems utilising a wide range of mostly lithium ion based battery technologies sourced from third party suppliers, and provides bespoke, integrated, high performance battery systems to its customers. One of Axeon's core strengths is its ability to provide the detailed applications engineering to design customised systems for each application, selecting the best battery chemistry for the job.

Lawrence Berns, Axeon's Chief Executive, said: 'We are truly delighted with this change of ownership.  It takes us into the control of one of Britain's most successful high tech companies, which has a strong footprint in the automotive sector, the target of our growth plans.
