Commenting on the news that Scotland’s manufactured exports rose by 2.5% in the first quarter of 2013, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:

\'Business optimism and performance in Scotland has been picking up since the beginning of this year and signs of growth in exporting are extremely encouraging as we seek a return to healthy levels of growth in our economy.

\'Earlier this month, we reported that the signs of improved business performance were becoming more widespread across a number of sectors, particularly those with a clear focus on international markets, such as manufacturing and tourism. These latest official figures for exporting underline this strength, particularly in terms of our world class food and drink industry.

\'Economic indicators are becoming more consistently positive and that can only be good news as we work towards a more robust recovery from the effects of the recession.”
