Social enterprise, The Circle, has two openings to join their Board as a non-executive Director.

The Circle is a hub for charities, social enterprises, community groups and socially aware businesses. They provide affordable offices and community space, as well as affordable meeting and event spaces. They have a consultancy team which offers advice and support on areas such as funding, business planning and finance. In 2019 they launched The Circle Academy, an SQA accredited training programme for individuals interested in running “More Than Profit” businesses.

The Circle’s Board recently approved the organisation’s next three-year strategy, and they have ambitious plans to develop their services. They are looking to appoint two additional non-executive Directors who will support the business’ continued growth, working with the Board and management team under the leadership of founder, Kirsty Thomson.

Founder and CEO of The Circle, Kirsty says
“This is a really exciting time to join the team. We’ve moved out of the ‘start-up’ stage of the business and are shifting into a new phase of development and growth. The Board will see us through this exciting transition period.”

There are two skillsets that are of particular interest for these roles to fit the organisation’s needs as they take it through its next stages of development. They are looking for one candidate with experience of developing and implementing marketing and PR strategies as well as experience of engagement with stakeholders within the voluntary sector. They are looking for another candidate who has experience of leadership within an organisation focusing on delivery of high-quality service to customers and of organisational planning and management of performance.

The Board currently meets on a quarterly basis. In addition to reading the papers in advance and attending meetings, non-executive Directors are also expected to be available at other times to provide advice and support to management, attend events organised by The Circle and take part in discussions on urgent matters which may arise from time to time.

Chair of The Circle’s Board, Donald McPherson says,
“Any organisation needs good governance if it is to achieve its full potential, and a Board made up of engaged Directors with complementary skills and life experiences is key to this. The new Directors will have the opportunity to work with a strong and committed team, led by Kirsty, who are passionate about making a real difference to the sector and our communities.”
