Free Internship Opportunity for Employers

Published

The University of Dundee runs Internship Modules that offer an opportunity for students to gain fantastic work experience and businesses the chance to take on a member of staff to carry out an internship.

The internships have been designed to provide students with valuable work experience through a 30 hour project which fits around their studies and takes place between January and March 2022. The students are supported in choosing an internship with a range of organisations across the public, private and third sectors. Alongside the internship, students will attend weekly interactive seminars on topics including work place cultures, project management, CVs, interview techniques, presentation skills and career options.

The internship is free for the organisation they work with and students can carry the projects out remotely or onsite (if onsite, plans need to be in places in case there is a further lockdown so the student can move to work remotely). You can also promote your opportunity for multiple students – if your activity will take longer than 30 hours, two students could work on it for 60 hours etc.

The Internships provided to our students in the past have been very varied - some ideas of projects completed are -

• Develop an organisations social media presence
• Writing blogs about the organisation for use on social media
• Plan and organise a fundraising event
• Assist with clients in the charity e.g. assist with training sessions
• Design marketing materials
• Complete a research project
• Develop and deliver a survey for the organisation and then write up a findings report

In the past year we also introduced a series of online information sessions for placement providers and following the positive feedback received regarding these, we will be holding two sessions over the summer to answer any questions -

Tuesday 27 July @ 2pm
Tuesday 31 August @ 10am

More information is available on the website https://www.dundee.ac.uk/careers/employers/internships/, as is the online form and project provider handbook.

If you would like to offer a placement in the forthcoming academic year, please complete the online form as soon as possible and at the latest by Friday 3 September. Please feel free to send this on to other organisations and contacts too.

If you would like to ask any questions about the programme, sign up for the sessions or would like to talk about ideas for your project proposal, please email us at careers@dundee.ac.uk.

University of Dundee

Nobel Prize winning poet and honorary graduate Seamus Heaney has described the University of Dundee as ‘having its head in the clouds and its feet firmly on the ground.’ The ability to be both aspirational and down-to earth and to blend ground-breaking intellectual achievement with practical applications, has given the University its distinctive character.
