Energy Rockets as Perth Festival Approaches

Visitors to Energy Festival are in for a treat with a host of sensational science experiments, showcasing everything from catapults and volcanoes to fake snow!

Dundee Science Centre is heading up the Inspire zone at this month’s sports and outdoor adventure festival in Perth, aiming to reunite friends and families while supporting businesses linked to health recovery and resilience.

Organised by Perth brothers Chris and Elliott Brown, the event will be held in the grounds of Scone Palace, with hopes to attract over 5000 attendees on each day of the weekend of 14th and 25th August 2021.

Aptly sponsored by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution, the Inspire zone will give visitors the chance to get stuck into an array of interactive activities and experiments.

Carlene Cura, Development and Fundraising Advisor, Dundee Science Centre explained, “We are absolutely thrilled to be heading up the Inspire zone where visitors of all ages can get immersed in some brilliant hands-on experiments and demos.

“Families and friends have been waiting for an event like this for so long and the Energy Festival will be a brilliant environment to have a go, compete and enjoy some brilliant inspirational activities out in the fresh air. Try out our infrared camera, cool down with some fake snow or get creative with some ‘make and take’ activities.  Groups of friends and family also love competing so we’ve lined up lots of challenges with the chance to win free tickets to come back and see us at Dundee Science Centre in the weeks ahead!”

In addition to the Inspire zone, the two-day event, aimed at people of all ages and abilities, will include Adventure, Challenge and Wellbeing zones. Activities will range from cooking with commando chef, bushcraft, quad pod rides and fishing to mountain biking, tug of war, electric bike hire, yoga, colour run and inflatable obstacles!

Other local businesses involved over the course of the weekend include Willowgate Activity Centre, Triathlon Scotland and Action Glen to name a few, who are providing kayaking, bushcraft, laser quest, duathlon and many more ‘have a go’ activities.

Elliott Brown, Co-Director of Energy Festival added, “Working with Dundee Science Centre to create the Inspire zone is really important to us at Energy Festival. We want to bring out the fun in science and technology, engaging with young people in an environment that you don’t often see STEM. The sports and adventure surroundings provide an ideal playground for learning and creating sparks of interest in activities usually reserved for the technology lab. We are extremely grateful that Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks are supporting us in creating the Inspire zone for everyone to participate in.”

Samantha O’Connor, Regional Customer Relationship Manager at SSEN Distribution said, “We’re proud to sponsor the Inspire Zone at Energy Festival, showcasing the range of diverse opportunities available within SSEN and the energy sector. Our teams are looking forward to demonstrating some of the exciting roles within our industry, with interactive activities reinforcing the importance of working safely around electricity.

“The next decade is critical for our sector as the way we use, manage, and even think about energy evolves at pace. The Energy Festival provides a perfect opportunity to inspire the next generation to power change and help us power our communities to net zero.”
