Dundee property expert comments on city's new status as most affordable area

With the results of Halifax’ annual survey listing Dundee as one of the 20 most affordable cities for homeowners in the UK (coming in 10th place), a Dundee-based property expert offers his analysis of the market.

Morton Simpson, a property manager for Dundee and Angus at Thorntons Solicitors, said, “Despite the average house price increasing by almost 13 per cent in the area, Dundee is still one of the most affordable places to buy property in Scotland.

“Due to the ease of access to country, seaside and hills, many Dundee locals are upgrading within the city when the time comes to buy a bigger home, rather than moving elsewhere. We’re seeing a trend in people in Dundee selling their homes and buying bigger properties, reflecting the spike in demand for more home office space, with many people now working from home.”

Morton also noted that more expensive homes in the area are selling well, driving up the average price index.

The average house price in Dundee has increased from £124,219 to £140,188 over the past year.
