With the UK exit from the European Union, there have been many changes to how international trade is conducted. Where once no special export documents were needed when trading in the EU, now all international traders are responsible for ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to meet customs formalities and regulations.

To assist traders in navigating new and existing international trade requirements, Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce have developed a comprehensive online training course, available to all traders in the region. The Chamber of Commerce course helps to deepen the participants understanding of international trade through a variety of topics. For each successful completion of a module, the attendee receives one point towards a formal qualification awarded by the British Chamber of Commerce. After six successful modules, the attendee will receive their Competent Person Award which is recognised by HMRC and the Chamber network.

Sian Mochan, Office Manager at Caledonia Potatoes was the first to enrol in the course and the first to receive her Competent Person Qualification. “It was really easy to get started and set-up. I managed to get through it in the summer months when we were a little bit quieter. It’s been a big help and the information will definitely be useful for the upcoming potato export season – and beyond”

Alison Henderson, Chief Executive at Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, said: “We’re very proud of our International Trade Training course. Our international team has put a huge amount of time and effort into creating the online course and our traders love this new service. I would encourage all traders who are looking to upskill their staff or themselves in international trade to get in touch.”

“We’ve got a great number of staff from businesses across our area working their way through this course and sharpening their skills. Everyone is dealing with new scenarios in international trade at the moment and we’ve had good feedback from people who have been working in this field for a long time, but also new entrants into international trade who have joined businesses as they increased resources to cope with the additional paperwork required for Brexit etc. Its worth everyone having a look at as its such a flexible way to learn.”

The Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce International Trade Training course is available for any trader in Dundee or Angus and participants can start learning at any time. More information can be found on the Chamber’s website.
