The Brothock Gallery at Arbroath Library has reopened (Monday 4 October 2021) after being closed for 18 months.
The gallery space displays temporary exhibitions from different local artists and community groups. Carnoustie Photo Group, who hold annual exhibitions of their work at the Library, will be the first to exhibit their work at the Brothock Gallery since March 2020.
An enthusiastic group of photographers formed Carnoustie Photo Group in 2000. Whilst other clubs place emphasis on competitions, Carnoustie Photo Group takes a different approach and holds one common call ‘Creativity, not Competition’.
Carnoustie Photo Group promotes an interest in all aspects of photography and welcomes members who enjoy photography at all experience levels, young and old, amateur and professional. There is room for all.
Max Fordyce, member of Carnoustie Photo Group said: “We would have been celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2020 but due to the Covid pandemic and like so many other organisations, our activities have been curtailed. This exhibition is a delayed celebration of the anniversary and we are delighted to showcase some of the talent that exists in the group.
“Throughout the pandemic we have continued our meetings virtually, with speakers appearing from around the UK to impart their knowledge and share their experiences. Hopefully, we will have taken on board some of the information gained. The images are as varied as the talents of our members, from near novice to experienced award winning photographers and we are grateful to ANGUSalive for helping us mount this exhibition and invite all interested to come along and view the photographs.”

Concurrent exhibitions around Angus include The Royal Scottish Academy’s Ages of Wonder Life School Tour at Montrose Museum and The Art of Etching on Tour at The Meffan in Forfar. The Signal Tower Museum in Arbroath is also open and has an exhibition of captivating photographs taken by the late Jonathan Ogilvie while observing the work of Arbroath fisherman during the 1980s.
