Two local businesses win Scottish heat in prestigious Chamber Business Awards 2021

Two local businesses, nominated for the Chamber Business Awards 2021 by Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce (DACC), have made it through to the finals on 9 December after winning the regional heat for Scotland. Chamber members ATL Turbine Services and Dundee Science Centre have won Global Player and Equality Trailblazer after  some tough competition.

Dale Harris, CEO, ATL Turbine Services said:

“ATL was delighted to have been selected to represent Dundee & Angus Chamber in the Global Player category at the British Chamber of Commerce regional finals.

To win the Scottish Award in this category and be put forward to the UK finals is fantastic recognition of all the work our team has put in over the past few years.  Dealing with new export/import regulations has been a challenge but our team has responded superbly and we wouldn’t be where we are without every one of them!”

Lorraine Lemon, Dundee Science Centre’s Head of Business and Operations said:

“We are delighted to have won the regional heats of the Chamber Business Awards for Equality Trailblazer and to be through to the national finals. Accessibility, diversity, and inclusion are crucial to Dundee Science Centre’s mission, with the recently completed £2.1 million capital investment a testament to our commitment.

Co-creation and design are at the heart of the project and alongside our assisted needs panel we created a welcoming and inclusive experience, bringing in new exhibits and facilities making the Centre more accessible to all. This is a fascinating and rewarding journey and one we are determined to continue."

Considered one of the UK's most prestigious business awards, each year hundreds of high-performing companies are put forward for the specialist categories and compete for the coveted National Chamber Business Awards. Now in their 18th year, the Awards are a highlight of the business calendar, and they pay tribute to the key role that local businesses play in driving the UK economy.

Alison Henderson, CEO of Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce said:

“Our region regularly punches above its weight in terms of ambition and business excellence – we're enormously proud to have been able to put forward really strong entries in every category of these awards.

Competition at a Scotland level is really challenging and for us to have two winners from the five awards is really great.

We know how hard every local business has worked over the last year and we are absolutely delighted to be in a position to give our members this prestigious opportunity on the National stage. The whole team at the Chamber wishes these two finalists the very best of luck.”

Rubyy McGregor-Smith, President of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said:

“Every single business in the UK deserves recognition for surviving the last 18 months of the pandemic.

“They have endured some of the toughest economic conditions that the UK has ever experienced, and it is a testament to their drive, determination and innovation that they have made it through.

“The Chamber Business Awards are therefore the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate our business community’s achievements and to shine a light on the work of UK businesses that have produced outstanding results in such trying times.

“Our judging teams across the country are consistently impressed by the number of high calibre entrants in the awards, and this year’s competitors should rightly inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”

National winners will be announced at a virtual event on 9 December and tickets can be reserved here from Monday 8 November.
