New Head of Service - Education, Learning and Inclusion

Dundee City Council is confirming that Paul Fleming has been appointed as Interim Head of Service - Education, Learning and Inclusion (Chief Education Officer).

He will replace Audrey May, who is taking up the post of Interim Executive Director of the council’s Children and Families Service.

Mr Fleming, who studied in Dundee and began his teaching career in the city, is currently a senior regional advisor with national body Education Scotland.

During his career, he has worked in Edinburgh and Falkirk in positions including depute head teacher and head teacher at primary schools and early years settings.

Mr Fleming was also involved in the Kick-It Kick-Off Learning Centre during his time in Dundee.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to be taking on the role of Head of Service – Education, Learning and Inclusion (Chief Education Officer), and I am so excited to be returning to Dundee.

I am passionate about delivering the very best experiences and outcomes for all children and young people. I look forward to working with children, families, colleagues, nurseries and schools across the city to deliver opportunities which will allow all children and young people to flourish and experience success in all aspects of their lives.”

Councillor Stewart Hunter, children and families convener, said: “This is a very strong appointment and I look forward to working with Paul.

He has an excellent track record of creativity, innovation and inclusion.

“Paul is a welcome addition to our team, who are making concerted efforts to improve the prospects for all our pupils across the city.”
