EV drivers in Dundee could benefit from upgrades to the charging infrastructure including contactless payment facilities if almost £107,000 of spending is agreed next week.
Transport Scotland and the Energy Saving Trust have awarded Dundee City Council funding to retrofit 18 publicly available 50kW rapid chargers at the city’s three charging hubs with contactless payment facilities.
Funding has also been awarded to relocate a charge point from the Mitchell Street Centre to the Hilltown Community Centre following relocation of part of the council’s EV fleet.
Mark Flynn convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee said: “Having been at the forefront of EV technology for more than a decade it is crucial that we keep up to date with new and emerging technologies.
“This funding will help us to do that and to continue to offer EV drivers who live, work and visit the city the best experience possible.”
Funding has also been awarded to replace a 50kW rapid charger at Dundee Ice Arena, which is incompatible with retrofit technology due to its age, bringing the total grant to £106,760.
The supply and installation of the new EV infrastructure has been procured through the Tayside Procurement Consortium Framework Contract.
Under the Framework, SWARCO are the highest scoring (quality and price) supplier representing best value to the council. Work is expected to take place by spring.
The city development committee meets on Monday (January 24).

Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
