Trustee opportunities at Dundee Museum of Transport

The Board of Dundee Museum of Transport is seeking to appoint a new Chair and Treasurer, along with additional trustees to compliment existing board skills and support the ambitious project to create a permanent home for the museum.

We would encourage interest from those with experience in the finance, HR, facilities management and fundraising sectors, and are keen to widen diversity and grow our profile within the business community.

Chair

The Chair has overall responsibility for governance and strategic development, and is a figurehead for the organisation.

Skills required:

·       Strong leader

·       Effective communicator

·       Team worker

·       Effective delegation to Trustees

·       Strategic vision

·       Ability to work within the remit of the strategic vision document and to drive it forward

·       Effective Board meeting protocol

·       Strong understanding of DMofT’s constitution

·       Interest in transport or heritage would be an advantage, but not essential

·       Awareness of relevant external organisations

·       Responsibility to ensure key tasks are assigned if a Trustee position remains vacant

Desirable attributes:

·       Strong local network

·       Business experience and entrepreneurial skills

 

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for budget control, financial recording and compliance, and ensuring robust financial processes are adhered to.

Skills required:

·       Experience in all aspects of budget management

·       Effective communicator

·       Team worker

·       Ability to work within the remit of the financial scope of the strategic vision document

·       Interest in transport or heritage would be an advantage, but not essential

The Treasurer is supported by a part-time book-keeper who oversees the day-to-day financial recording.

 

Trustees

Dundee Museum of Transport

Dundee Museum of Transport was established in 2010 with the aim of saving and re-developing the site of the former Maryfield Tram Depot. The Museum, currently situated on Market Street in Dundee, opened in 2014 and has become a popular attraction among the City's thriving heritage scene.
