This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated individual to take on a multi-faceted role and contribute to the day-to-day running of an award-winning independent school.

Lathallan School – Small Independent School of the Year 2021 – is seeking to appoint a Marketing and Communications Manager (12-month maternity cover) from March 2022.

The successful candidate will lead on all aspects of the Marketing Strategy to promote one of Scotland’s leading independent schools with a distinct focus on pupil retention and recruitment.

We are looking for a candidate with creativity, strong networking skills and an understanding of traditional, digital and emerging media channels. Given the need to produce engaging content to develop quality enquiries from prospective parents, photography, video-editing and design skills will be considered as being advantageous to the role.

The Marketing and Communication Manager will work alongside, and closely with, the Headmaster, Bursar, Admissions, and teaching teams.

The main duties of the role are:

Strategic

  • Working closely with the Headmaster and the Board of Directors to devise and implement a marketing strategy to assist the Admissions Officer in achieving pupil recruitment goals.
  • Enhancing the reputation of Lathallan School as a leading school of choice across Scotland, the UK and overseas.
  • Regular analysis of marketing performance with metrics and support delivery of management reports with key marketing data and statistics.
  • Undertaking market and competitor research, benchmarking and analysis.

Communication

  • Developing and managing an annual programme of communications across digital, social and traditional media channels.
  • Responding to press enquiries and other external individuals and organisations.
  • Writing effective and engaging press releases and liaising with local and national media to increase awareness of Lathallan School and promote its values.
  • Creating a strong, positive social media presence across all our channels to truly reflect all that the school has to offer.
  • Positively managing communication channels between the school and all stakeholders.
  • Design and production of monthly parent e-newsletter, using Mailchimp.
  • Copywriting and website maintenance, using Wordpress.

Brand

  • Ensuring that brand consistency is maintained throughout all marketing activity in nature, style and content.
  • Overseeing the production of all branded materials, including but not limited to prospectuses, open day literature, event brochures, academic publications and newsletters.
  • Managing the school’s print and online advertising campaigns, and overseeing the schedule to ensure assets are supplied on time.

Events

  • Assisting with organisation and promotion of key marketing events (on-site and virtual), such as Open Days, school productions and concerts.
  • Developing events and engagement programmes with the local community, feeder schools and other partners, in order to promote the school.

Photography & Videography

  • Providing relevant photography and video content for website, social channels and marketing campaigns.
  • Ensuring pupil permissions are adhered to in accordance with the data protection rules.

Advertisement, Sponsorship and Strategic Partnership

  • Overseeing relevant sponsorships to ensure they deliver value and drive brand awareness.
  • Nurturing strategic partnerships which amplify brand awareness with target audiences.

Person specification:

  • Marketing or communication experience in a similar role and / or qualification.
  • Experience with websites, digital marketing and social media.
  • Excellent computer skills, with knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience in PR, internal and external communications.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Organisation and time management skills.
  • Success driven and confident, hardworking and adaptable.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and as a member of the school team / family.
  • A positive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to reflect and take on positive criticism – growth mindset.
  • Ability to zoom out and see the big picture to achieve agreed goals and know how to prioritise accordingly.
  • Outgoing and personable, with an ability to interact well with parents, staff and pupils.
  • Excellent telephone and face to face communication skills.
  • Budgeting experience desirable.

Salary: £32,000.00 per year
