Local Partners call on business to take action

Local partners are calling on businesses across the region to take action ahead of WWF’s Earth Hour on Saturday 26 March.

At an event to be held on Thursday 24 March, Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, along with Dundee City Council, Circular Tayside and Zero Waste Scotland will discuss the importance of building a sustainable business, and the support available to help them on their journey.

Attendees will hear more about Dundee’s Net Zero commitment along with the Circular Tayside Charter, an opportunity for businesses to work towards and document their path to Net Zero.

The Scottish Government has made a commitment to net-zero emissions of all greenhouse gases by 2045, but what does this mean to businesses across Dundee & Angus? Being able to take action on climate change will not only help local businesses grow but create new jobs, get involved with new opportunities and encourage investment across the region whilst helping businesses lower running costs and maintain a competitive advantage both locally and globally.

Alison Henderson, DACC CEO said:
“Our business community is well connected into the climate agenda and using green growth to drive sustainable economic impact. Our region has an army of Circular Tayside Ambassadors and leaders who are committed to innovation & sustainability.

From climate positive gin to decarbonising transportation, we see so much growth in local businesses operating at the cutting edge of net zero business.

COP26 allowed Scotland to have so many more conversations around sustainability and how we must all play our part. We’re looking forward to continuing these discussions and further raising awareness.”

As well as hearing from the partners, the event will also learn more from local businesses who are championing the region with their sustainable journey. Businesses such as The Little Green Larder, SolarisKit and Keep Scotland Beautiful will be in attendance to share their journey, innovative products and technology insight to showcase the region’s ability to meet the 2045 targets.

Faisal Ghani, Founder & CEO, SolarisKit said:
“SolarisKit is delighted to be part of this event and Scotland’s effort to help decarbonise the global economy and enhance access to clean energy. There are numerous companies in Scotland working on tackling this problem and we look forward to future collaborations that will positively impact both quality of life and the environment.”

Businesses looking to attend the event on 24 March can register on the Chamber website

Supports individual businesses as they begin to identify and implement new and innovative approaches to businesses that support a transition to a circular economy Brings together a group of Circular Tayside Ambassadors who will be leaders in their sectors and champions of the circular economy.

Dundee City Council

Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
