Appointment of Chair to the Board of Dundee and Angus College

Scottish Ministers are looking for a new Chair for the Board of Dundee and Angus College. The appointment will be for up to four years from 4 July 2022.

Dundee and Angus College (D&A) delivers a great student learning experience and works with partners to support new and established industries in the region.  D&A is the skills partner for exciting projects including the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP), the Northern Lights E-Sports Arena development, Eden Project Scotland projectDundee Waterfront and the Tay Cities Region Deal.

What are we looking for in a new Chair?

We are looking for a new Chair who will lead a dynamic and committed board in providing effective governance of the College It’s an exciting time for Dundee and Angus College and we are keen that the new Chair demonstrates a passion for the positive impact that education has for people and communities and is keen to engage with stakeholders across a range of interests.

Skills/Experience Required

As Chair of the Dundee and Angus College Board you must be able to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and experience listed in the person specification below. 

  • Strategic leadership and analytical skills, with a track record of good governance and achievement within a complex environment
  • Strong emotional intelligence and communication skills, with a proven ability to build effective partnerships, to negotiate with and influence others.
  • Strong commitment to people, to facilitate inclusion, social mobility and thriving communities.
  • Innovative and future focussed, with an understanding of the public sector and environment within which the college operates and the ability to comprehend and act on the opportunities for Tertiary education and the College in a post-pandemic world.

Time commitment

The Chair is expected to devote an average of 2 days per week to the board, up to a maximum of 104 days per year.  Whilst the majority of board meetings

take place in the local area, the Chair may also represent the board at external meetings across Scotland.

Remuneration

The daily remuneration rate for this role is £265, up to a maximum total fee of £27,560 per financial year.  Expenses incurred as a result of carrying out the duties of the appointment, including reasonable travel and subsistence costs and dependant carer and childcare expenses, will be reimbursed.

Location

The board is based at Gardyne Campus, Gardyne Road, Dundee, DD5 1NY. Some meetings may be held virtually.

Length of appointment

The term of appointment will be for 4 years from 4 July 2022.

Any appointment and potential subsequent reappointments will not extend beyond a maximum of eight years.
