£900,000 investment gives Angus Sport and Leisure centres a lift

ANGUSalive, the culture, sport and leisure trust for Angus, is to invest £900,000 to improve and enhance the experience for gym-goers at its sports centres.

Brechin Community Campus, Arbroath Sports Centre and Carnoustie Sports Centre will be the first to benefit from the six-figure investment which will include new state-of-the-art cardio, functional and fixed resistance fitness equipment; structural works to enhance and expand the spaces as well as installation of feature lighting, audio and visual solutions.

In addition to the equipment and structural enhancements, there will also be investment to refresh and modernise the decor, branding and signage to revitalise the internal and exterior of the venues.

The investment for the project will come from funds set aside within the trust’s Renewal and Repair Fund (R&R Fund) which the charity has made annual contributions towards since it was established in 2015. The Fund is critical to the success of ANGUSalive by ensuring that it can reinvest in its services to continue to offer a high-quality customer experience.

It is hoped that the investment will support the trust in retaining its current membership base but also help attract new visitors to its centres to enjoy the benefits that sport and leisure services bring including improved health and wellbeing.

Iain Stevens, Senior Manager for Business Management and Development at ANGUSalive said: “We are delighted to be able to reinvest in our sports centres and bring a much-needed boost to our facilities to improve the experience and environment for our members and local community.

“We are a not- for-profit organisation so every penny we make is able to be reinvested to improve and enhance our services and activities for the local community to enjoy.

“Covid has had a detrimental effect on our membership with it only returning to around 65% of pre-Covid income levels with casual sports admission income recovered to only 40% of pre-Covid levels.  We are confident that the improvements will be welcomed by the local community and attract more to come and use their local leisure, sport and cultural trust.”

The redevelopment work is planned to start first at Brechin Community Campus from Monday 16 May, 2022 where a new gym experience will be installed. New spin bikes have already arrived and the gym itself will undergo an exciting transformation.

Lesley Hadden, Project Lead for ANGUSalive explains more about the improvements at Brechin. She said “With the ever-changing fitness industry and constantly evolving workout trends, it’s more important than ever to ensure our training spaces are an inviting and engaging environment for our members.

“Working with our partners we have created an entirely new gym space.  We’ve successfully designed the gym to maximise floor space, configured an all-encompassing lifting, functional fitness and group training space, featuring new state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

“Different colour schemes will provide training zones helping members understand what type of activity should be undertaken in each zone. Enhanced audio and visual solutions will also be installed to improve the overall customer experience.

“Treadmills, cross trainers, bikes, powermill and traditional fixed resistance machines will feature in the new space offering immersive experiences, extensive entertainment options, and all the connectivity from fitness apps that you’d expect from a premium HD screen. It’s an exciting time for our sports centres.”

It is anticipated the gym at Brechin Community Campus will be closed until Saturday 18 June, 2022. Gym-goers can still access any of ANGUSalive’s six other sports centres during the closure, including Forfar Community Campus and Montrose Sports Centre.

The improvements to Arbroath Sports Centre and Carnoustie Sports Centre will follow in the coming weeks and months with specific redevelopment work dates to be confirmed in due course. ANGUSalive is aiming to ensure that disruption to customers is kept to a minimum with periods of closure no longer than necessary.

It is hoped that further improvements will be carried out at ANGUSalive’s remaining sport and leisure venues throughout 22/23.

ANGUSalive is working with Life Fitness, Indigo Fitness, Hutchison Technologies, Prime Signs Ltd and Alliance Leisure TA6 to help revitalise the spaces to enhance the customer experience.
